1上主訓示梅瑟說： 1And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
2「你告訴亞郎說：你安放燈盞時，要使七盞燈光，光照燈台的前面。」 2Speak to Aaron, and thou shalt say to him: When thou shalt place the seven lamps, let the candlestick be set up on the south side. Give orders therefore that the lamps look over against the north, towards the table of the leaves of proposition, over against that part shall they give light, towards which the candlestick looketh.
3亞郎就照樣做了：安放了燈盞，使燈光照耀燈台的前面，如上主對梅瑟所吩咐的。 3And Aaron did so, and he put the lamps upon the candlestick, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
4這燈台是用金子打成的，從座到花朵都是打成的；梅瑟是照上主指示的式樣，製造了燈台。 4Now this was the work of the candlestick, it was of beaten gold, both the shaft in the middle, and all that came out of both sides of the branches: according to the pattern which the Lord had shewn to Moses, so he made the candlestick.
5上主訓示梅瑟說： 5And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
6「你由以色列子民中選出肋未人，並要潔淨他們。 6Take the Levites out of the midst of the children of Israel, and thou shalt purify them,
7為潔淨他們，你應這樣做：將取潔水灑在他們身上，命他們用刀剃全身，然後洗自己的衣服，使自己潔淨。 7According to this rite: Let them be sprinkled with the water of purification, and let them shave all the hairs of their flesh. And when they shall have washed their garments, and are cleansed,
8以後，他們應帶一隻公牛犢和同獻的素祭，即油調的細麵；你應另帶一頭公牛犢，為作贖罪祭； 8They shall take an ox of the herd, and for the offering thereof fine flour tempered with oil: and thou shalt take another ox of the herd for a sin offering:
9領肋未人到會幕前，並召集以色列子民全會眾。 9And thou shalt bring the Levites before the tabernacle of the covenant, calling together all the multitude of the children of Israel:
10領肋未人到上主面前以後，以色列子民將自己的手放在肋未人身上， 10And when the Levites are before the Lord, the children of Israel shall put their hands upon them:
11亞郎就以搖禮把肋未人獻於上主面前，當作以色列子民的獻儀：這樣，他們纔可以行服事上主的事。 11And Aaron shall offer the Levites, as a gift in the sight of the Lord from the children of Israel, that they may serve in his ministry.
12以後肋未人應按手在兩頭公牛犢頭上：一隻你要獻給上主作贖罪祭，一隻作全燔祭，為肋未人贖罪。 12The Levites also shall put their hands upon the heads of the oxen, of which thou shalt sacrifice one for sin, and the other for a holocaust to the Lord, to pray for them.
13你應使肋未人站在亞郎和他的兒子們面前，以搖禮把他們獻給上主。 13And thou shalt set the Levites in the sight of Aaron and of his sons, and shalt consecrate them being offered to the Lord,
14為此，你要由以色列子民中分出肋未人來，使他們屬於我。 14And shalt separate them from the midst of the children of Israel, to be mine.
15此後，肋未人纔可進入會幕服務。為此你應潔淨他們，以搖禮奉獻他們， 15And afterwards they shall enter into the tabernacle of the covenant, to serve me. And thus shalt thou purify and consecrate them for an oblation of the Lord: for as a gift they were given me by the children of Israel.
16因為他們是以色列子民中完全獻與我的人；我使他們歸於我。以代替以色列子民中一切開胎的首生， 16I have taken them instead of the firstborn that open every womb in Israel,
17因為以色列子民中的一切首生，不拘是人是獸，都屬於我；自從我在埃及地擊殺了一切首生的那一日起，我就將他們祝聖歸屬於我。 17For all the firstborn of the children of Israel, both of men and of beasts, are mine. From the day that I slew every firstborn in the land of Egypt, have I sanctified them to myself:
18我取了肋未人，替代以色列子民中的一切首生； 18And I have taken the Levites for all the firstborn of the children of Israel:
19我由以色列子民中委派了肋未人，作亞郎和他兒子們的屬下，為替代以色列子民在會幕內服務，為以色列子民贖罪，免得以色列子民因接近聖所而遭受災禍。」 19And have delivered them for a gift to Aaron and his sons out of the midst of the people, to serve me for Israel in the tabernacle of the covenant, and to pray for them, lest there should be a plague among the people, if they should presume to approach unto my sanctuary.
20梅瑟、亞郎以及以色列子民全會眾，對肋未人就如此做了；上主關於肋未人怎樣吩咐了梅瑟，以色列子民就對他們怎樣做了。 20And Moses and Aaron and all the multitude of the children of Israel did with the Levites all that the Lord had commanded Moses:
21肋未人潔淨了自己，洗了自己的衣服，亞郎遂以搖禮把他們獻在上主面前，亞郎並為他們贖了罪，使他們潔淨。 21And they were purified, and washed their garments. And Aaron lifted them up in the sight of the Lord, and prayed for them,
22此後，肋未人纔進入會幕內，在亞郎和他的兒子們面前執行自己的職務。上主關於肋未人怎樣吩咐了，梅瑟就對他們怎樣做了。 22That being purified they might go into the tabernacle of the covenant to do their services before Aaron and his sons. As the Lord had commanded Moses touching the Levites, so was it done.
23上主訓示梅瑟說： 23And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
24「這是關於肋未人的法令：由二十五歲以上，應來服役，在會幕內工作； 24This is the law of the Levites: From twenty-five years old and upwards, they shall go in to minister in the tabernacle of the covenant.
25到了五十歲就退休，不再服役； 25And when they shall have accomplished the fiftieth year of their age, they shall cease to serve:
26以後在會幕內輔助自己的兄弟照管該遵守的事，自己卻不必服勞役。關於肋未人的職務，你應這樣安排。」 26And they shall be the ministers of their brethren in the tabernacle of the covenant, to keep the things that are committed to their care, but not to do the works. Thus shalt thou order the Levites touching their charge.

8:5-19
按圣经记载，司祭与肋未人大有分别：为授司祭职，应用「祝圣」的仪式（出28:41; 29:1-9；肋8:1）；为授肋未人职，只用「洁净」仪式。洁净礼共分叁点：一、 取洁水，剃身和洗衣；二、行赎罪祭与全燔祭，会众长老按手於肋未人身上，肋未人按手於祭牲上；叁、梅瑟领肋未人隆重进入会幕，将他们交与亚郎和他的子孙。总而言之：司祭是亚郎的直系後代，肋未人则是肋未支派的其他男子。司祭能接近祭坛，能献祭；肋未人却不能，只能在会幕内或圣殿内做辅助的工作。
