1上主訓示梅瑟說： 1And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
2「你要製造兩個喇叭，用銀打成，用為召集會眾，為遷移營幕。 2Make thee two trumpets of beaten silver, wherewith thou mayest call together the multitude when the camp is to be removed.
3幾時吹兩個喇叭，全會眾都應集合在會幕門口，來到你跟前。 3And when thou shalt sound the trumpets, all the multitude shall gather unto thee to the door of the tabernacle of the covenant.
4若只吹一個喇叭，以色列的千夫長，作首領的應集合到你跟前。 4If thou sound but once, the princes and the heads of the multitude of Israel shall come to thee.
5若吹緊急號，紮在東方的營就起程； 5But if the sound of the trumpets be longer, and with interruptions, they that are on the east side, shall first go forward.
6第二次吹緊急號時，紮在南方的營就起程：吹緊急號是為叫他們起程； 6And at the second sounding and like noise of the trumpet, they who lie on the south side shall take up their tents. And after this manner shall the rest do, when the trumpets shall sound for a march.
7但為召集會眾，只吹號，不應緊急吹。 7But when the people is to be gathered together, the sound of the trumpets shall be plain, and they shall not make a broken sound.
8亞郎的子孫作司祭的應吹號：這為你們世世代代是條永久的規定。 8And the sons of Aaron the priest shall sound the trumpets: and this shall be an ordinance for ever in your generations.
9幾時你們在本國要出去作戰，攻打來侵的仇敵，應吹緊急號，使上主你們的天主，記得你們，救你們脫離仇敵。 9If you go forth to war out of your land against the enemies that fight against you, you shall sound aloud with the trumpets, and there shall be a remembrance of you before the Lord your God, that you may be delivered out of the hands of your enemies.
10此外，在你們的慶日、節日、月朔之日，獻全燔祭及和平祭時，還應吹號，使你們的天主記得你們：我是上主，你們的天主。」中編流落曠野 （10:11-21:35） 10If at any time you shall have a banquet, and on your festival days, and on the first days of your months, you shall sound the trumpets over the holocausts, and the sacrifices of peace offerings, that they may be to you for a remembrance of your God. I am the Lord your God.
11第二年二月二十日，雲彩由會幕升起， 11The second year, in the second month, the twentieth day of the month, the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle of the covenant.
12以色列子民就從西乃曠野循序起程出發。以後雲彩在帕蘭曠野停住了。 12And the children of Israel marched by their troops from the desert of Sinai, and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Pharan.
13他們初次依照上主藉梅瑟所出的命令起程。 13And the first went forward according to the commandment of the Lord by the hand of Moses.
14首先依隊起程的，是猶大子孫的營旗，率領軍隊的，是阿米納達布的兒子納赫雄； 14The sons of Juda by their troops: whose prince was Nahasson the son of Aminadab.
15率領依撒加爾子孫支派軍隊的，是族阿爾的兒子乃塔乃耳； 15In the tribe of the sons of Issachar, the prince was Nathanael the son of Suar.
16率領則步隆子孫支派軍隊的，是厄隆的兒子厄里雅布。 16In the tribe of Zabulon, the prince was Eliab the son of Helon.
17拆下帳幕後，革爾雄的子孫和默辣黎的子孫，就抬著帳幕起程出發。 17And the tabernacle was taken down, and the sons of Gerson and Merari set forward, bearing it.
18以後依隊出發的，是勒烏本的營旗，率領軍隊的，是舍德烏爾的兒子厄里族爾； 18And the sons of Ruben also marched, by their troops and ranks, whose prince was Helisur the son of Sedeur.
19率領西默盎子孫支派軍隊的，是族黎沙待的兒子舍路米耳； 19And in the tribe of Simeon, the prince was Salamiel the son of Surisaddai.
20率領加得子孫支派軍隊的，是勒烏耳的兒子厄里雅撒夫。 20And in the tribe of Cad, the prince was Eliasaph the son of Duel.
21此後刻哈特人抬著聖所之物起程；當他們達到時，人應已豎起帳幕。 21Then the Caathites also marched carrying the sanctuary. So long was the tabernacle carried, till they came to the place of setting it up.
22以後依隊出發的，是厄弗辣因子孫的營旗，率領軍隊的，是阿米胡得的兒子厄里沙瑪； 22The sons of Ephraim also moved their camp by their troops, in whose army the prince was Elisama the son of Ammiud.
23率領默納協子孫支派軍隊的，是培達族爾的兒子加默里耳； 23And in the tribe of the sons of Manasses, the prince was Gamaliel the son of Phadassur.
24率領本雅明子孫支派軍隊的，是基德敖尼的兒子阿彼丹。 24And in the tribe of Benjamin, the prince was Abidan the son of Gedeon.
25以後依隊出發的，是作全營後衛的丹子孫的營旗，率領軍隊的，是阿米沙待的兒子阿希厄則爾； 25The last of all the camp marched the sons of Dan by their troops, in whose army the prince was Ahiezer the son of Ammisaddai.
26率領阿協爾子孫支派軍隊的，是敖革蘭的兒子帕革厄耳； 26And in the tribe of the sons of Aser, the prince was Phegiel the son of Ochran.
27率領納斐塔里子孫支派軍隊的，是厄南的兒子阿希辣。 27And in the tribe of the sons of Nephtali, the prince was Ahira the son of Enan.
28這是以色列子民出發時，依隊起程的次序。 28This was the order of the camps, and marches of the children of Israel by their troops, when they set forward.
29梅瑟對自己的岳父，米德楊人勒烏耳的兒子曷巴布說：「我們正要起程往上主曾說：「我要給你們的那地方」去；你同我們一起去罷！我們必要好待你，因為上主對以色列許下了幸福。」 29And Moses said to Hobab the son of Raguel the Madianite, his kinsman: We are going towards the place which the Lord will give us: come with us, that we may do thee good: for the Lord hath promised good things to Israel.
30曷巴布回答他說：「我不去，我要回到故鄉我的老家去。」 30But he answered him: I will not go with thee, but I will return to my country, wherein I was born.
31梅瑟說：「請你不要離開我們！因為你知道我們在曠野安營的地方，你要給我們當嚮導。 31And he said: Do not leave us: for thou knowest in what places we should encamp in the wilderness, and thou shalt be our guide.
32你若同我們一起去，我們必使你分享上主要賜與我們的幸福。」 32And if thou comest with us, we will give thee what is the best of the riches which the Lord shall deliver to us.
33他們就由上主的山起程出發，行了三天的路程；三天的路程中，上主的約櫃走在他們的前面，為他們尋求休息的地方。 33So they marched from the mount of the Lord three days' journey, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them, for three days providing a place for the camp.
34白天他們移營前行時，上主的雲彩常在他們頭上。 34The cloud also of the Lord was over them by day when they marched.
35當約櫃起行時，梅瑟就說：「上主，請你起來，使你的仇敵潰散，使懷恨你的由你面前逃走。」 35And when the ark was lifted up, Moses said: Arise, O Lord, and let thy enemies be scattered, and let them that hate thee, flee from before thy face.
36在約櫃停留時，他就說：「上主，請歸來，住在以色列千家萬戶中」。 36And when it was set down, he said: Return, O Lord, to the multitude of the host of Israel.

直筒形的银喇叭多半是用於礼仪中的乐器；另一种以山羊角制的弯屈喇叭，称为「角」或「号角」；只在喜乐或交战时用。梅瑟时代吹喇叭的，只是亚郎的两个儿子，以後肋未人也获得了这项特权。见编下5:12等处。
