1當人在地上開始繁殖，生養女兒時， 1And after that men began to be multiplied upon the earth, and daughters were born to them,
2天主的兒子見人的女兒美麗，就隨意選取，作為妻子。 2The sons of God seeing the daughters of men, that they were fair, took to themselves wives of all which they chose.
3上主於是說：「因為人既屬於血肉，我的神不能常在他內；他的壽數只可到一百二十歲。」 3And God said: My spirit shall not remain in man for ever, because he is flesh, and his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.
4當天主的兒子與人的兒女結合生子時，在地上已有一些巨人，（以後也有），他們就是古代的英雄，著名的人物。 4Now giants were upon the earth in those days. For after the sons of God went in to the daughters of men, and they brought forth children, these are the mighty men of old, men of renown.
5上主見人在地上的罪惡重大，人心天天所思念的無非是邪惡； 5And God seeing that the wickedness of men was great on the earth, and that all the thought of their heart was bent upon evil at all times,
6上主遂後悔在地上造了人，心中很是悲痛。 6It repented him that he had made man on the earth. And being touched inwardly with sorrow of heart,
7上主於是說：「我要將我所造的人，連人帶野獸、爬蟲和天空的飛鳥，都由地面上消滅，因為我後悔造了他們。」 7He said: I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth, from man even to beasts, from the creeping thing even to the fowls of the air, for it repenteth me that I have made them.
8惟有諾厄在上主眼中蒙受恩愛。 8But Noe found grace before the Lord.
9以下是諾厄的小史：諾厄是他同時代惟一正義齊全的人，常同天主往來。 9These are the generations of Noe: Noe was a just and perfect man in his generations, he walked with God.
10他生了三個兒子：就是閃、含、和耶斐特。 10And he begot three sons, Sem, Cham, and Japheth.
11大地已在天主面前敗壞，到處充滿了強暴。 11And the earth was corrupted before God, and was filled with iniquity.
12天主見大地已敗壞，因為凡有血肉的人，品行在地上全敗壞了， 12And when God had seen that the earth was corrupted (for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth,)
13天主遂對諾厄說：「我已決定要結果一切有血肉的人，因為他們使大地充滿了強暴，我要將他們由大地上消滅。 13He said to Noe: The end of all flesh is come before me, the earth is filled with iniquity through them, and I will destroy them with the earth.
14你要用柏木造一隻方舟，舟內建造一些艙房，內外都塗上瀝青。 14Make thee an ark of timber planks: thou shalt make little rooms in the ark, and thou shalt pitch it within and without.
15你要這樣建造：方舟要有三百肘長，五十肘寬，三十肘高。 15And thus shalt thou make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits: the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
16方舟上層四面做上窗戶，高一肘；門要安在側面；方舟要分為上中下三層。 16Thou shalt make a window in the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish the top of it: and the door of the ark thou shalt set in the side: with lower, middle chambers, and third stories shalt thou make it.
17看我要使洪水在地上氾濫，消滅天下一切有生氣的血肉；凡地上所有的都要滅亡。 17Behold I will bring the waters of a great flood upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, under heaven. All things that are in the earth shall be consumed.
18但我要與你立約，你以及你的兒子、妻子和兒媳，要與你一同進入方舟。 18And I will establish my covenant with thee, and thou shalt enter into the ark, thou and thy sons, and thy wife, and the wives of thy sons with thee.
19你要由一切有血肉的生物中，各帶一對，即一公一母，進入方舟，與你一同生活； 19And of every living creature of all flesh, thou shalt bring two of a sort into the ark, that they may live with thee: of the male sex, and the female.
20各種飛鳥、各種牲畜、地上所有的各種爬蟲，皆取一對同你進去，得以保存生命。 20Of fowls according to their kind, and of beasts in their kind, and of every thing that creepeth on the earth according to its kind; two of every sort shall go in with thee, that they may live.
21此外，你還應帶上各種吃用的食物，貯存起來，作你和他們的食物。」 21Thou shalt take unto thee of all food that may be eaten, and thou shalt lay it up with thee: and it shall be food for thee and them.
22諾厄全照辦了；天主怎樣吩咐了他，他就怎樣做了。 22And Noe did all things which God commanded him.

6:1-4
洪水之罚是人类的败坏所引起的，这败坏的近因是因天主的儿子们娶了人的女儿们。所谓天主的儿子即恭敬天主的舍特的子孙；人的女儿即指加音不恭敬天主的子女。「我的神」此处是指天主赋於人的生活之力(2:7)。「血肉」即指易於沈湎於肉身之乐的人性。「巨人」的来历无法考定。巨人的事迹，多见於旧约中（户13:33；申3:11；撒上17；巴3:26-28等处）。此处作者并非说巨人是由天主的儿子和人的女儿所生的，而只是说当天主的儿子和人的女儿结合时，地上已有巨人。这些巨人相似那些强悍善战，不认识智慧之道的巨人（巴3:26,27）。
6:5-8
有关洪水的记载（6-8章），大概来自两种有关洪水的记述。近东古代史家编纂史书，多只穿插古文件，而对文件中互异之处，多不加修改。有关洪水的传说，古代民族大都有所记载。本书所记就结构和体裁而言，与叔默尔和巴比伦的洪水神话有很多类似之处，但根本的区别却很大，因本书中决无多神的不经之论；且本书所记是在教训世人几端道德和宗教的高深道理，如天主的正义、仁慈、召选、救恩和盟约的道理(9:1-17)。旧约的作者多以诺厄和洪水的事为天主施恩和惩罚的预像（依54:7-10；德44:17-19；智10:4）。新约多以洪水的事为公审判（玛24:37-39），或圣洗圣事的预像（伯前3:18-22）。
