21索多瑪王對亞巴郎說：「請你將人交給我，財物你都拿去罷！」 21And the king of Sodom said to Abram: Give me the persons, and the rest take to thyself.
22亞巴郎卻對索多瑪王說：「我向上主、至高者天主、天地的主宰舉手起誓： 22And he answered him: I lift up my hand to the Lord God the most high, the possessor of heaven and earth,
23凡屬於你的，連一根線，一根鞋帶，我也不拿，免得你說：我使亞巴郎發了財。 23That from the very woof thread unto the shoe latchet, I will not take of any things that are thine, lest thou say I have enriched Abram:
24除僕從吃用了的以外，我什麼也不要；至於與我同行的人阿乃爾、厄市苛耳和瑪默勒所應得的一分，應讓他們拿去。」 24Except such things as the young men have eaten, and the shares of the men that came with me, Aner, Escol, and Mambre: these shall take their shares.

本段所记一定是根据了一段很古的文献。从前的史家多以为阿默辣斐耳是古巴比伦着名的帝王哈慕辣彼；但近来的史家已不主此说。史家都以为本章所述的史事，很适合公元前十九世纪近东各国的情况。创的作者把此段插入本章，愿意显示亚巴郎在客纳罕已蒙受了天主的祝福，成为一位有力量的酋长；愿说明他对罗特的宽容大量，尤其愿说明他要成为众信友之父，同未来真宗教的中心耶路撒冷所有的关系。为了这些原故，他受了耶路撒冷王兼司祭的祝福。
