1這些事以後，天主試探亞巴郎說：「亞巴郎！」他答說：「我在這裡。」 1After these things, God tempted Abraham, and said to him: Abraham, Abraham. And he answered: Here I am.
2天主說：「帶你心愛的獨生子依撒格往摩黎雅地方去，在我所要指給你的一座山上，將他獻為全燔祭。」 2He said to him: Take thy only begotten son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and go into the land of vision: and there thou shalt offer him for an holocaust upon one of the mountains which I will shew thee.
3亞巴郎次日清早起來，備好驢，帶了兩個僕人和自己的兒子依撒格，劈好為全燔祭用的木柴，就起身往天主指給他的地方去了。 3So Abraham rising up in the night, saddled his ass: and took with him two young men, and Isaac his son: and when he had cut wood for the holocaust he went his way to the place which God had commanded him.
4第三天，亞巴郎舉目遠遠看見了那個地方， 4And on the third day, lifting up his eyes, he saw the place afar off.
5就對僕人說：「你們同驢在這裡等候，我和孩子要到那邊去朝拜，以後就回到你們這裡來。」 5And he said to his young men: Stay you here with the ass: I and the boy will go with speed as far as yonder, and after we have worshipped, will return to you.
6亞巴郎將為全燔祭用的木柴，放在兒子依撒格的肩上，自己手中拿著刀和火，兩人一同前行。 6And he took the wood for the holocaust, and laid it upon Isaac his son: and he himself carried in his hands fire and a sword. And as they two went on together,
7路上依撒格對父親亞巴郎說：「阿爸！」他答說：「我兒，我在這裡。」依撒格說：「看，這裡有火有柴，但是那裡有作全燔祭的羔羊？」 7Isaac said to his father: My father. And he answered: What wilt thou, son? Behold, saith he, fire and wood: where is the victim for the holocaust?
8亞巴郎答說：「我兒！天主自會照料作全燔祭的羔羊。」於是二人再繼續一同前行。 8And Abraham said: God will provide himself a victim for an holocaust, my son. So they went on together.
9當他們到了天主指給他的地方，亞巴郎便在那裡築了一座祭壇，擺好木柴，將兒子依撒格捆好，放在祭壇上的木柴上。 9And they came to the place which God had shewn him, where he built an altar, and laid the wood in order upon it: and when he had bound Isaac his son, he laid him on the altar upon the pile of wood.
10亞巴郎正伸手舉刀要宰獻自己的兒子時， 10And he put forth his hand and took the sword, to sacrifice his son.
11上主的使者從天上對他喊說：「亞巴郎！亞巴郎！」他答說：「我在這裡。」 11And behold an angel of the Lord from heaven called to him, saying: Abraham, Abraham. And he answered: Here I am.
12使者說：「不可在這孩子身上下手，不要傷害他！我現在知道你實在敬畏天主，因為你為了我竟連你的獨生子也不顧惜。」 12And he said to him: Lay not thy hand upon the boy, neither do thou any thing to him: now I know that thou fearest God, and hast not spared thy only begotten son for my sake.
13亞巴郎舉目一望，見有一隻公綿羊，兩角纏在灌木中，遂前去取了那隻公綿羊，代替自己的兒子，獻為全燔祭。 13Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw behind his back a ram amongst the briers sticking fast by the horns, which he took and offered for a holocaust instead of his son.
14亞巴郎給那地方起名叫「上主自會照料」。直到今日人還說：「在山上，上主自會照料。」 14And he called the name of that place, The Lord seeth. Whereupon even to this day it is said: In the mountain the Lord will see.
15上主的使者由天上又呼喚亞巴郎說： 15And the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven, saying:
16「我指自己起誓，──上主的斷語，──因為你作了這事，沒有顧惜你的獨生子， 16By my own self have I sworn, saith the Lord: because thou hast done this thing, and hast not spared thy only begotten son for my sake:
17我必多多祝福你，使你的後裔繁多，如天上的星辰，如海邊的沙粒。你的後裔必佔領他們仇敵的城門； 17I will bless thee, and I will multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is by the sea shore: thy seed shall possess the gates of their enemies.
18地上萬民要因你的後裔蒙受祝福，因為你聽從了我的話。」 18And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because thou hast obeyed my voice.
19亞巴郎回到自己僕人那裡，一同起身回了貝爾舍巴，遂住在貝爾舍巴。 19Abraham returned to his young men, and they went to Bersabee together, and he dwelt there.
20這些事以後，有人告訴亞巴郎說：「米耳加也給你的兄弟納曷爾生了兒子： 20After these things, it was told Abraham that Melcha also had borne children to Nachor his brother.
21長子伍茲，他的弟弟步次、阿蘭的父親刻慕耳、 21Hus the firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Camuel the father of the Syrians,
22革色得、哈左、丕耳達士、依德拉夫和貝突耳：── 22And Cased, and Azau, and Pheldas, and Jedlaph,
23貝突耳生了黎貝加，──這八人都是米耳加給亞巴郎的兄弟納曷爾生的兒子。 23And Bathuel, of whom was born Rebecca: These eight did Melcha bear to Nachor Abraham's brother.
24此外他的妾，名叫勒烏瑪的，給他生了特巴黑、加罕、塔哈士和瑪阿加。 24And his concubine, named Roma, bore Tabee, and Gaham, and Tahas, and Maacha.

这篇感动人心的记录，说明：一、天主试探亚巴郎，为彰显他的德行；二、斥责当时客纳罕人所献人祭之非；叁、亚巴郎遵命祭杀爱子，和依撒格甘心顺命，是天主爱世人交出独子耶稣，和耶稣甘心从命救赎人类的预像（希11:17-19）。摩黎雅山按编下3:1的记载，也许就是撒罗满在其上修建圣殿的山。14节的意思是谓：天主看到人的急需必加以照顾。
