3以色列愛若瑟超過其他的兒子，因為是他年老生的，並給他做了一件彩色長衫。 3Now Israel loved Joseph above all his sons, because he had him in his old age: and he made him a coat of divers colours.
4他的哥哥們見父親愛他勝過其餘的兒子，就忌恨他，不能與他和氣交談。 4And his brethren seeing that he was loved by his father, more than all his sons, hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him.
5若瑟作了一夢，講給哥哥們聽，因此他們越發惱恨他。 5Now it fell out also that he told his brethren a dream, that he had dreamed: which occasioned them to hate him the more.
6他對他們說：「請聽我作的夢： 6And he said to them: Hear my dream which I dreamed.
7我夢見我們同在田中捆麥子，忽然我的麥捆站起來，你們的麥捆圍住我的麥捆下拜。」 7I thought we were binding sheaves in the field: and my sheaf arose as it were, and stood, and your sheaves standing about, bowed down before my sheaf.
8他哥哥們對他說：「難道你要作我們的君王？或者統治我們？」他們為了這夢和這番話，越發惱恨他。 8His brethren answered: Shalt thou be our king? or shall we be subject to thy dominion? Therefore this matter of his dreams and words ministered nourishment to their envy and hatred.
9他又作了一夢，也告訴他哥哥們說：「我又作了一夢：夢見太陽和月亮並十一顆星辰向我下拜。」 9He dreamed also another dream, which he told his brethren, saying: I saw in a dream, as it were the sun, and the moon, and eleven stars worshipping me.
10當他給父親和哥哥們講說這夢時，他父親就責斥他說：「你作的是什麼夢？難道我和你母親以及你的兄弟，都要來向你叩首至地？」 10And when he had told this to his father and brethren, his father rebuked him, and said: What meaneth this dream that thou hast dreamed? shall I and thy mother, and thy brethren worship thee upon the earth?
11他兄弟們都忌恨他；他父親卻將這事存在心裡。 11His brethren therefore envied him: but his father considered the thing with himself.
12若瑟的哥哥們去了舍根，放他們父親的羊。 12And when his brethren abode in Sichem feeding their father's flocks,
13以色列對若瑟說：「你哥哥們不是在舍根放羊麼？來，我打發你去看看他們。」他回答說：「我在這裡。」 13Israel said to him: Thy brethren feed the sheep in Sichem: come, I will send thee to them. And when he answered:
14以色列對他說：「你去看看你哥哥們是否平安，羊群怎樣；然後回來告訴我。」以色列便打發他由赫貝龍山谷前去；他到了舍根。 14I am ready: he said to him: Go, and see if all things be well with thy brethren, and the cattle: and bring me word again what is doing. So being sent from the vale of Hebron, he came to Sichem:
15有一個人見他在田間遊蕩，那人就問他說：「你尋找什麼？」 15And a man found him there wandering in the field, and asked what he sought.
16他答說：「我尋找我的哥哥；請告訴我：他們在那裡放羊？」 16But he answered: I seek my brethren; tell me where they feed the flocks.
17那人答說：「他們已離開了這裡；我聽見他們說：我們到多堂去。」於是若瑟便去追尋他的哥哥，在多堂找到了。 17And the man said to him: They are departed from this place: for I heard them say: Let us go to Dothain. And Joseph went forward after his brethren, and found them in Dothain.
18他們老遠就看見了他；在他尚未來近以前，就已決定要謀殺他。 18And when they saw him afar off, before he came nigh them, they thought to kill him.
19他們彼此說：「看，那作夢的人來了！ 19And said one to another: Behold the dreamer cometh.
20我們殺掉他，將他拋在一口井裡，說是猛獸吃了。看他的夢還有什麼用？」 20Come, let us kill him, and cast him into some old pit: and we will say: Some evil beast hath devoured him: and then it shall appear what his dreams avail him:
21勒烏本聽了，就設法由他們手中救他，遂說：「我們不要害他！」 21And Ruben hearing this, endeavoured to deliver him out of their hands, and said:
22勒烏本又對他們說：「你們不要流血；只將他丟在這曠野的井裡，不可下手害他。」他的意思是想由他們手中救出他來，還給父親。 22Do not take away his life, nor shed his blood: but cast him into this pit, that is in the wilderness, and keep your hands harmless: now he said this, being desirous to deliver him out of their hands and to restore him to his father.
23若瑟一來到他哥哥們那裡，他們就脫去了他穿的那件彩色長衣，抓住他，把他丟在井裡； 23And as soon as he came to his brethren, they forthwith stript him of his outside coat, that was of divers colours:
24那井是空的，裡面沒有水。 24And cast him into an old pit, where there was no water.
25他們坐下吃飯時，舉目看見一隊由基肋阿得來的依市瑪耳人；他們的駱駝滿載樹膠、香液和香料，要下到埃及去。 25And sitting down to eat bread, they saw some Ismaelites on their way coming from Galaad, with their camels, carrying spices, and balm, and myrrh to Egypt.
26猶大遂對兄弟們說：「殺害我們的弟弟，隱瞞他的血，究竟有什麼益處？ 26And Juda said to his brethren: What will it profit us to kill our brother, and conceal his blood?
27不如將他賣給依市瑪耳人，免得對他下毒手，因為他究竟是我們的兄弟，是我們的骨肉。」兄弟們聽從了他的意見。 27It is better that he be sold to the Ismaelites, and that our hands be not defiled: for he is our brother and our flesh. His brethren agreed to his words.
28米德楊的商人經過那裡時，他們便從井中拉出若瑟來，以二十塊銀錢賣給了依市瑪耳人；他們便將若瑟帶到埃及去了。 28And when the Madianite merchants passed by, they drew him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ismaelites, for twenty pieces of silver: and they led him into Egypt.
29勒烏本回到井邊，不見若瑟在井內，遂撕裂了自己的衣服， 29And Ruben, returning to the pit, found not the boy:
30回到兄弟們那裡喊說：「孩子不見了！我可往那裡去呢？」 30And rending his garments he went to his brethren, and said: The boy doth not appear and whither shall I go?
31他們於是拿了若瑟的長衣，殺了一隻公山羊，將長衣浸在血裡； 31And they took his coat, and dipped it in the blood of a kid, which they had killed:
32然後派人將那件彩色的長衣送給他們的父親說：「這是我們尋得的，請你仔細看看，是不是你兒子的長衣？」 32Sending some to carry it to their father, and to say: This we have found: see whether it be thy son's coat, or not.
33雅各伯仔細一看，就喊說：「是我兒子的長衣；猛獸將他吃了。若瑟被撕裂了，被撕裂了！」 33And the father acknowledging it, said: It is my son's coat, an evil wild beast hath eaten him, a beast hath devoured Joseph.
34雅各伯遂撕裂了自己的衣服，腰間圍上麻衣，為自己的兒子悲哀了多日。 34And tearing his garments, he put on sackcloth, mourning for his son a long time.
35雖然他的兒女都來安慰他，他卻不肯接受他們的安慰，說：「我只有悲哀地下到陰間，往我兒那裡去！」他的父親竟這樣哀悼他。 35And all his children being gathered together to comfort their father in his sorrow, he would not receive comfort, but said: I will go down to my son into hell, mourning. And whilst he continued weeping,
36米德楊人後來在埃及將若瑟賣給了法郎的內臣，衛隊長普提法爾。 36The Madianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Putiphar, an eunuch of Pharao, captain of the soldiers.
