Chapter 1
1 After Moses, the servant of the LORD, had died, the LORD said to Moses' aide Joshua, son of Nun:
上主的仆人梅瑟死了以后，上主对农的儿子，梅瑟的待从若苏厄说：
2 ＂My servant Moses is dead. So prepare to cross the Jordan here, with all the people into the land I will give the Israelites.
＂我的的仆人梅瑟死了，你现在起来，和全体百姓过约但河，往我赐给他们，即以色列子民的地方去。
3 As I promised Moses, I will deliver to you every place where you set foot.
凡你们的脚踏过的地方，照我对梅瑟说的，我必赐给你们；
4 1 Your domain is to be all the land of the Hittites, from the desert and from Lebanon east to the great river Euphrates and west to the Great Sea.
从旷野直到黎巴嫩，由大河，即幼发拉的河，赫特人的全境，直到大海日落之地，都是你们的领土。
5 No one can withstand you while you live. I will be with you as I was with Moses: I will not leave you nor forsake you.
你有生之日，没有人能抵抗你；过去我怎样和梅瑟同在，也要怎样和你同在，决不离开你，决不舍弃你。
6 Be firm and steadfast, so that you may give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers I would give them.
你应勇敢果断，因为你必须使这百姓，占领我曾向他们祖先起誓赐给他们作产业的地方。
7 Above all, be firm and steadfast, taking care to observe the entire law which my servant Moses enjoined on you. Do not swerve from it either to the right or to the left, that you may succeed wherever you go.
你只须勇敢，坚决果断，不偏左右，谨守奉行我仆人梅瑟所吩咐你的一切训示，好使你无往不利。
8 Keep this book of the law on your lips. Recite it by day and by night, that you may observe carefully all that is written in it; then you will successfully attain your goal.
这部法律书总不要离开你的口，你要日夜默思，好叫你能谨守奉行其中所记载的一切；这样，你做事必能顺利，必能成功。
9 I command you: be firm and steadfast! Do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD, your God, is with you wherever you go.＂
我不是吩咐了你，你应勇敢果断吗？所以你不要害怕，也不要胆怯，因为你无论到那里，上主你的天主必与你同在。＂
10 So Joshua commanded the officers of the people:
以后若苏厄向百姓的官长下令说：
11 ＂Go through the camp and instruct the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for three days from now you shall cross the Jordan here, to march in and take possession of the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you.'＂
＂你们应走遍全营，吩咐百姓说：你们应准备食物，因为还有三天，就要过这约但河，去占领上主你们的天主赐与你们作产业的土地。
12 Joshua reminded the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh:
若苏厄又对勒乌本人、加得人和默纳协半支派的人说：
13 ＂Remember what Moses, the servant of the LORD, commanded you when he said,‘The LORD, your God, will permit you to settle in this land.'
＂你们应记起上主的仆人梅瑟吩咐你们的事。他说过：上主你们的天主将这地赐给你们，使你们获得安居，
14 Your wives, your children, and your livestock shall remain in the land Moses gave you here beyond the Jordan. But all the warriors among you must cross over armed ahead of your kinsmen and you must help them
你们的妇孺和牲畜，可留在梅瑟在约但河东赐你们的地方；但你们中所有的英勇战士，都应武装起来，在你们弟兄前过河，协助他们，
15 until the LORD has settled your kinsmen, and they like you possess the land which the LORD, your God, is giving them. Afterward you may return and occupy your own land, which Moses, the servant of the LORD, has given you east of the Jordan.＂
直到上主使你们的弟兄，像你们一样，占领了上主你们的天主，赐给他们作为产业的地方，获得了安居，然后你们方可回到你们所得作为产业的地方，即上主的仆人梅瑟在约但河东，日出之地，赐予你们的地方。
16 ＂We will do all you have commanded us,＂ they answered Joshua, ＂and we will go wherever you send us. We will obey you as completely as we obeyed Moses.
他们回答若苏厄说：＂凡你命令我们的，我们必都照办；凡你派我们去的地方，我们一定去。
17 But may the LORD, your God, be with you as he was with Moses.
我们在一切事上怎样服从了梅瑟，也怎样服从你；惟愿上主你的天主与你同在，如与梅瑟同在一样。
18 If anyone rebels against your orders and does not obey every command you give him, he shall be put to death. But be firm and steadfast.＂
无论谁违背你的命令，不服从你吩咐他的一切训示，必处死刑。但你应该勇敢果断。＂

Chapter 2
1 1 Then Joshua, son of Nun, secretly sent out two spies from Shittim, saying,＂Go, reconnoiter the land and Jericho.＂ When the two reached Jericho, they went into the house of a harlot named Rahab, where they lodged.
农的儿子若苏厄由史廷暗中派出两个人作侦探说：＂你们去察看那地和耶里哥！＂他们就去了，来到一个名叫辣哈布的妓女家中，就住在那里。
2 But a report was brought to the king of Jericho that some Israelites had come there that night to spy out the land.
有人报告耶里哥王说：＂夜间有两个以色列人到了这里，侦探这地方。＂
3 So the king of Jericho sent Rahab the order,＂Put out the visitors who have entered your house, for they have come to spy out the entire land.＂
耶里哥王遂派人到辣哈布那里说：＂将那来到你家中的两个人交出来，因为他们是来侦探这地方的。＂
4 The woman had taken the two men and hidden them, so she said,＂True, the men you speak of came to me, but I did not know where they came from.
但是那女人预先将那两个人藏起来，就这样回答说：＂那两个人的确来过我这里，但他们是从那里来的，我却不知道。
5 At dark, when it was time for the gate to be shut, they left, and I do not know where they went. You will have to pursue them immediately to overtake them.＂
天黑快关城门时，他们两人出去了；往那里去了，我也不知道。你们快去追赶，也许还可赶上他们。＂
6 2 Now, she had led them to the roof, and hidden them among her stalks of flax spread out there.
原来她叫那两个人上了屋顶，藏在她屋顶上堆积的麻楷内。
7 But the pursuers set out along the way to the fords of the Jordan, and once they had left, the gate was shut.
来问的人便沿着约但河，直向渡口去追赶；追赶的人一出去，城门就关了。
8 3 Before the spies fell asleep, Rahab came to them on the roof
他们还没有睡，那女人就上到屋顶，
9 and said:＂I know that the LORD has given you the land, that a dread of you has come upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are overcome with fear of you.
对他们二人说：＂我知道上主已将这地方交给了你们；你们真叫我们害怕，此地所有的居民，对你们都恐惧不已。
10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the waters of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and how you dealt with Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites beyond the Jordan, whom you doomed to destruction.
因为我们听说，你们出埃及时，上主怎样使红海在你们面前干涸；你们又怎样对待了约但河东岸的两个阿摩黎王，即息红和敖格，将他们完全消灭。
11 At these reports, we are disheartened; everyone is discouraged because of you, since the LORD, your God, is God in heaven above and on earth below.
我们听了，心都冷了，没有一人再有勇气来对抗你们，因为上主你们的天主，就是上天下地的天主。
12 Now then, swear to me by the LORD that, since I am showing kindness to you, you in turn will show kindness to my family; and give me an unmistakable token
现在请你们指着上主对我起誓，我既然恩待了你们，你们也要恩待我的父家，请给我们一个安全的保证，
13 that you are to spare my father and mother, brothers and sisters, and all their kin, and save us from death.＂
使我的父母、兄弟、姊妹和他们所有的一切人，都能生存，救我们的性命免于死亡。＂
14 ＂We pledge our lives for yours,＂ the men answered her.＂If you do not betray this errand of ours, we will be faithful in showing kindness to you when the LORD gives us the land.＂
他们二人回答她说：＂如果妳不泄漏我们的约定，我们愿拿性命为你们担保；当上主将这地方交给我们时，我们必慈善忠厚地对妳。＂
15 4 Then she let them down through the window with a rope; for she lived in a house built into the city wall.
那女人于是用绳子将他们二人由窗户缒下去，因为她的房屋是在城墙上，她也住在城墙上。
16 ＂Go up into the hill country,＂ she suggested to them,＂that your pursuers may not find you. Hide there for three days, until they return; then you may proceed on your way.＂
她又对他们说：＂你们要往山中去，免得追赶的人遇见你们。你们在那里躲藏三天，等追赶的人回来，然后再上道。＂
17 The men answered her,＂This is how we will fulfill the oath you made us take:
他们二人对她说：＂如果你不这样作，你叫我们所起的誓，我们将不负责：
18 When we come into the land, tie this scarlet cord in the window through which you are letting us down; and gather your father and mother, your brothers and all your family into your house.
就是当我们再到这地方时，你应将这根朱红线系在妳缒下我们的窗户上，并且叫妳的父母、兄弟和妳父亲全家人口，都聚集在妳这屋内。
19 Should any of them pass outside the doors of your house, he will be responsible for his own death, and we shall be guiltless. But we shall be responsible if anyone in the house with you is harmed.
谁若走出妳的屋门，他的血应由他自己承当，我们不负责任；但凡同妳在屋内的，如有人下手加害他，他的血将由我们承当。
20 If, however, you betray this errand of ours, we shall be quit of the oath you have made us take.＂
但是你若泄漏了我们的约定，那么，妳叫我们所起的誓，我们便不负责。＂
21 ＂Let it be as you say,＂ she replied, and bade them farewell. When they were gone, she tied the scarlet cord in the window.
她回答说：＂就照你们说的做罢！＂于是打发他们二人走了。他们走后，她遂把那根朱红线系在她的窗户上。
22 They went up into the hills, where they stayed three days until their pursuers, who had sought them all along the road without finding them, returned.
他们出去，到了山上，在那里住了三天，直到追赶的人回去。追赶的人一路寻找他们，结果没有找到。
23 Then the two came back down from the hills, crossed the Jordan to Joshua, son of Nun, and reported all that had befallen them.
他们二人转身，由山上下来，渡过了约但河，回到农的儿子若苏厄那里，将他们所遇见的事，一一报告给他。
24 They assured Joshua,＂The LORD has delivered all this land into our power; indeed, all the inhabitants of the land are overcome with fear of us.＂
他们对若苏厄说：＂上主实在已将那整个地域交在我们手中，因为那地方的居民对我们都十分恐惧。＂

1 [1] Harlot: this is the regular equivalent of the Hebrew word, but perhaps it is used here of Rahab in the broader sense of a woman who kept a public house. Joshua's spies hoped to remain undetected at such an inn.
Stalks of flax spread out: to dry in the sun, after they had been soaked in water, according to the ancient process of preparing flax for linen-making. In the Near East the flax harvest occurs near the time of the feast of the Passover (Joshua 4:19; 5:10); cf Exodus 9:31.
3 [8-11] Rahab's faith and good works are praised in the New Testament; cf Hebrews 11:31; James 2:25.
4 [15] A house built into the city wall: such houses, which used the city wall for their own inner walls, have been found at ancient sites. The upper story of Rahab's house was evidently higher than the city wall. It was through the window of such a house that St. Paul escaped from Damascus; cf Acts 9:25; 2 Cor 11:33.
Chapter 3
1 Early the next morning, Joshua moved with all the Israelites from Shittim to the Jordan, where they lodged before crossing over.
若苏厄清早起来，同所有的以色列子民由史廷出发，来到了约但河，住在那里，等候过河。
2 Three days later the officers went through the camp
过了三天，官长走遍全营，
3 and issued these instructions to the people:＂When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD, your God, which the levitical priests will carry, you must also break camp and follow it,
吩咐百姓说：＂你们一看见上主你们天主的约柜，和抬约柜的肋未人，你们便由你们所住的地方起身，跟着它走，
4 that you may know the way to take, for you have not gone over this road before. But let there be a space of two thousand cubits between you and the ark. Do not come nearer to it.＂
好使你们知道你们应走的路，因为这条路你们从来没有走过。但在你们与约柜之间，应相隔二千肘，不可走近约柜。＂
5 Joshua also said to the people,＂Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will perform wonders among you.＂
若苏厄对百姓说：＂你们应该自洁，因为上主明天要在你们中间行神迹。
6 And he directed the priests to take up the ark of the covenant and go on ahead of the people; and they did so.
若苏厄又吩咐司祭说：＂你们抬起约柜，在百姓前过河。＂他们遂抬起约柜，走在百姓前面。
7 Then the LORD said to Joshua,＂Today I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know I am with you, as I was with Moses.
上主对若苏厄说：＂今天我要开始在众以色列眼前显扬你，使他们知道，我要与你同在，有如我过去我与梅瑟同在一样。
8 Now command the priests carrying the ark of the covenant to come to a halt in the Jordan when they reach the edge of the waters.＂
你吩咐抬约柜的司祭说：＂你们一到约但河的水边，就停在约但河边。＂
9 So Joshua said to the Israelites,＂Come here and listen to the words of the LORD, your God.＂
若苏厄又吩咐以色列子民说：＂你们前来静听上主你们天主的话。＂
10 He continued:＂This is how you will know that there is a living God in your midst, who at your approach will dispossess the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites.
若苏厄遂说：＂你们由此可知道，永生的天主是在你们中间，衪必由你们面前，将客纳罕人、赫特人、希威人、培黎齐人、基尔加士人、阿摩黎人和耶步斯人赶走。
11 The ark of the covenant of the LORD of the whole earth will precede you into the Jordan.
看，大地主宰的约柜要在你们前面渡过约但河。
12 (Now choose twelve men, one from each of the tribes of Israel.)
现在，你们应从以色列支派中，挑选十二人，每支派一人。
13 When the soles of the feet of the priests carrying the ark of the LORD, the Lord of the whole earth, touch the water of the Jordan, it will cease to flow; for the water flowing down from upstream will halt in a solid bank.＂
当抬大地的主宰上主约柜的司祭的脚掌，一踏入约但河的水，约但河的水就必中断，由上流下的水要停，像一道堤。
14 The people struck their tents to cross the Jordan, with the priests carrying the ark of the covenant ahead of them.
当百姓起程离开帐幕要过约但河时，司祭抬着约柜，走在百姓的前面。
15 1 No sooner had these priestly bearers of the ark waded into the waters at the edge of the Jordan, which overflows all its banks during the entire season of the harvest,
当抬约柜的司祭到了约但河，他们的脚一踏入水边，──原来约但河在整个收割期间，水常涨至河岸──
16 2 than the waters flowing from upstream halted, backing up in a solid mass for a very great distance indeed, from Adam, a city in the direction of Zarethan; while those flowing downstream toward the Salt Sea of the Arabah disappeared entirely. Thus the people crossed over opposite Jericho.
水就停住了：由上流下的水像一道堤，停在很远的地方，远至匝尔堂附近的阿当城；往下流入阿辣巴海，即盐海的水，已全退去；于是百姓在耶里哥对面过了河。
17 While all Israel crossed over on dry ground, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD remained motionless on dry ground in the bed of the Jordan until the whole nation had completed the passage.
当全以色列人在旱地上渡过时，抬上主约柜的司祭稳立在约但河中的旱地上，直到全民众都渡过约但河。

1 [15] Season of the harvest: toward the end of March and the beginning of April, when the grain and other crops that grew during the rainy season of winter were reaped. The crossing took place＂on the tenth day of the first month＂ of the Hebrew year, which began with the first new moon after the spring equinox; cf Joshua 4:19. At this time of the year the Jordan would be swollen as a result of the winter rains and the melting snow of Mount Hermon.
2 [16] The sudden damming of the river could have been caused by a landslide, as has happened on other occasions. The miraculous character of this event would not thereby be removed because God, who foretold it (Joshua 3:13), also caused it to take place at precisely the right moment (Joshua 3:15), whether or not he used natural forces to accomplish his will.
Chapter 4
1 After the entire nation had crossed the Jordan,
众百姓一过了约但河，上主就吩咐若苏厄说：
2 the LORD said to Joshua,＂Choose twelve men from the people, one from each tribe,
＂你该由百姓中，挑选十二人，每支派一人，
3 and instruct them to take up twelve stones from this spot in the bed of the Jordan where the priests have been standing motionless. Carry them over with you, and place them where you are to stay tonight.＂
命令他们说：你们要从这里，从约但河中，由司祭的脚站立的地方，取十二块石头，带到你们今夜住宿的地方去。＂
4 Summoning the twelve men whom he had selected from among the Israelites, one from each tribe,
若苏厄于是将他由以色列子民中选定的十二人，每支派一人召了来，
5 Joshua said to them:＂Go to the bed of the Jordan in front of the ark of the LORD, your God; lift to your shoulders one stone apiece, so that they will equal in number the tribes of the Israelites.
对他们说：＂你们由上主你们天主的约柜面前走过，到约但河中心，依照以色列子民支派的数目，各取一块石头，放在肩上，
6 In the future, these are to be a sign among you. When your children ask you what these stones mean to you,
在你们中间作为记念；日后你们的子孙问起你们：这些石头有什么意思？
7 you shall answer them,‘The waters of the Jordan ceased to flow before the ark of the covenant of the LORD when it crossed the Jordan.' Thus these stones are to serve as a perpetual memorial to the Israelites.＂
你们要告诉他们说：约但河的水，在上主约柜前曾一度中断，正在约柜过约但河时，约但河的水便中断了，这些石头，为以色列子民将作永远的记念。
8 The twelve Israelites did as Joshua had commanded: they took up as many stones from the bed of the Jordan as there were tribes of the Israelites, and carried them along to the camp site, where they placed them, according to the LORD'S direction.
以色列子民就照若苏厄所吩咐的作了；依上主对若苏厄所说的，按照以色列子民支派的数目，由约但河中心取了十二块石头，搬到他们扎营的地方，把石头放在那里。
9 Joshua also had twelve stones set up in the bed of the Jordan on the spot where the priests stood who were carrying the ark of the covenant. They are there to this day.
若苏厄又在约但河中心，抬约柜的司祭的脚站立的地方，竖立了十二块石头，这些石头直到今天，还留在那里。
10 1 The priests carrying the ark remained in the bed of the Jordan until everything had been done that the LORD had commanded Joshua to tell the people. The people crossed over quickly,
抬约柜的司祭站在约但河中央，直至上主命令若苏厄告诉百姓的一切事，全照梅瑟吩咐若苏厄的办完了，百姓才赶快过去。
11 and when all had reached the other side, the ark of the LORD, borne by the priests, also crossed to its place in front of them.
众百姓过了河以后，上主的约柜和司祭才过去，仍走在百姓的前面。
12 The Reubenites, Gadites, and half-tribe of Manasseh, armed, marched in the vanguard of the Israelites, as Moses had ordered.
勒乌本人、加得人和默纳协半支派的人，依照梅瑟对他们所吩咐的，武装起来，在以色列子民前首先过去；
13 About forty thousand troops equipped for battle passed over before the LORD to the plains of Jericho.
约有四万武装部队由上主面前走过，向耶里哥平原进发，准备作战。
14 That day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel, and thenceforth during his whole life they respected him as they had respected Moses.
那一天，上主在众以色列面前，显扬了若苏厄；在他有生之日，百姓敬重他如敬重梅瑟一样。
15 Then the LORD said to Joshua,
上主吩咐若苏厄说：
16 ＂Command the priests carrying the ark of the commandments to come up from the Jordan.＂
＂你命令抬约柜的司祭，由约但河里上来。＂
17 Joshua did so,
若苏厄便吩咐司祭说：＂你们由约但河里上来。＂
18 and when the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD had come up from the bed of the Jordan, as the soles of their feet regained the dry ground, the waters of the Jordan resumed their course and as before overflowed all its banks.
抬上主约柜的司祭由约但河一上来，他们的脚一着旱地，约但河的水即刻流回原处，如同先前一样，涨到两岸。
19 The people came up from the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and camped in Gilgal on the eastern limits of Jericho.
正月初十，百姓由约但河上来以后，在耶里哥东边的基耳加耳扎了营。
20 At Gilgal Joshua set up the twelve stones which had been taken from the Jordan,
若苏厄将从约但河取来的那十二块石头，立在基耳加耳；
21 saying to the Israelites,＂In the future, when the children among you ask their fathers what these stones mean,
然后吩咐以色列子民说：＂日后你们的子孙，若问他们的父老说：这些石头有什么意思？
22 you shall inform them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan here on dry ground.'
你们就告诉你们的子孙说：以色列曾在这旱地上过了这约但河，
23 For the LORD, your God, dried up the waters of the Jordan in front of you until you crossed over, just as the LORD, your God, had done at the Red Sea, which he dried up in front of us until we crossed over;
因为上主你们的天主，曾在你们的面前使约但河水干涸，直到你们都过了河，正如上主你们的天主，在我们面前使红海干涸，直到我们都过了海一样，
24 in order that all the peoples of the earth may learn that the hand of the LORD is mighty, and that you may fear the LORD, your God, forever.＂
为叫地上万民认识上主的手如何强而有力，为叫你们从此时常敬畏上主，你们的天主。＂

Chapter 5
1 When all the kings of the Amorites to the west of the Jordan and all the kings of the Canaanites by the sea heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the Israelites until they crossed over, they were disheartened and lost courage at their approach.
住在约但河西岸所有的阿摩黎人的王子，和所有靠近海滨的客纳罕人的王子，一听见上主使约但河水在以色列子民面前干涸了，直到他们都过了河，无不胆战心惊，面对以色列子民，个个吓得魂不附体。
2 On this occasion the LORD said to Joshua, ＂Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelite nation for the second time.＂
那时上主对若苏厄说：＂你应制造火石刀，再给以色列子民行割损。＂
3 1 So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the Israelites at Gibeath-haaraloth,
若苏厄就制造了火石刀，在阿辣罗特山丘给以色列子民行了割损。
4 under these circumstances: Of all the people who came out of Egypt, every man of military age had died in the desert during the journey after they left Egypt.
若苏厄行割损的原因，是因为由埃及出来的众百姓，所有能作战的男子，出埃及后，都死在旷野的路上。
5 Though all the men who came out were circumcised, none of those born in the desert during the journey after the departure from Egypt were circumcised.
出离埃及的百姓，都受过割损，但在离开埃及以后，生于旷野路途的百姓，都没有受过割损。
6 Now the Israelites had wandered forty years in the desert, until all the warriors among the people that came forth from Egypt died off because they had not obeyed the command of the LORD. For the LORD swore that he would not let them see the land flowing with milk and honey which he had promised their fathers he would give us.
以色列子民在旷野里漂泊了四十年，直到全民众，即出离埃及能作战的男子都去了世，因为他们没有听从上主的话，所以上主曾向他们起誓，决不许他们看到上主向他们的祖先起誓，要赐给我们的那流奶流蜜的地方。
7 It was the children whom he raised up in their stead whom Joshua circumcised, for these were yet with foreskins, not having been circumcised on the journey.
但为接替他们，上主兴起了他们的子孙，若苏厄就给他们行了割损，──他们仍有包皮，因为他们在路上没有受过割损。
8 When the rite had been performed, the whole nation remained in camp where they were, until they recovered.
民众全受了割损以后，便往在营中，直到痊愈。
9 2 Then the LORD said to Joshua, ＂Today I have removed the reproach of Egypt from you.＂ Therefore the place is called Gilgal to the present day.
上主于是对若苏厄说：＂今天我由你们身上割去了埃及的耻辱。＂因此，那地方直到今天叫作基耳加耳。
10 3 While the Israelites were encamped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, they celebrated the Passover on the evening of the fourteenth of the month.
以色列子民在基耳加耳扎了营；正月十四日晚上，在耶里哥平原举行了逾越节。
11 On the day after the Passover they ate of the produce of the land in the form of unleavened cakes and parched grain. On that same day
逾越节次日，他们吃了当地的出产，即在那一天，吃了无酵饼和烤的麦子。
12 after the Passover on which they ate of the produce of the land, the manna ceased. No longer was there manna for the Israelites, who that year ate of the yield of the land of Canaan.

13 4 While Joshua was near Jericho, he raised his eyes and saw one who stood facing him, drawn sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, ＂Are you one of us or of our enemies?＂
当若苏厄走近耶里哥时，举目一望，看见一个人立在他前面，手持脱鞘的刀。若苏厄走到那人面前问他说：＂你是我们的人，还是我们仇敌的人？＂
14 He replied, ＂Neither. I am the captain of the host of the LORD and I have just arrived.＂ Then Joshua fell prostrate to the ground in worship, and said to him, ＂What has my lord to say to his servant?＂

15 The captain of the host of the LORD replied to Joshua, ＂Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy.＂ And Joshua obeyed.

Chapter 6
1 Now Jericho was in a state of siege because of the presence of the Israelites, so that no one left or entered.
耶里哥城门紧紧关闭，无人出入，以防以色列子民。
2 And to Joshua the LORD said, ＂I have delivered Jericho and its king into your power.
上主对若苏厄说：＂看！我已将耶里哥和城中的王子，精锐的战士，都交在你手中。
3 Have all the soldiers circle the city, marching once around it. Do this for six days,
你们所有的战士要围绕这城转一遭，这样转六天。
4 with seven priests carrying ram's horns ahead of the ark. On the seventh day march around the city seven times, and have the priests blow the horns.
七位司祭要带着七个羊角号，在约柜前面行走；但第七天，要围绕城转七遭，并且司祭要吹号角。
5 When they give a long blast on the ram's horns and you hear that signal, all the people shall shout aloud. The wall of the city will collapse, and they will be able to make a frontal attack.＂
当羊号角吹起长声时，你们听见了号角的响声时，众百姓应当高声喊叫；那时城墙必要坍塌，百姓个个要往前直冲。＂
6 Summoning the priests, Joshua, son of Nun, then ordered them to take up the ark of the covenant with seven of the priests carrying ram's horns in front of the ark of the LORD.
农的儿子若苏厄将司祭召来，对他们说：＂你们应抬着约柜，七位司祭带着七个羊角号，走在上主约柜的前面。＂
7 And he ordered the people to proceed in a circle around the city, with the picked troops marching ahead of the ark of the LORD.
然后，又对百姓说：＂你们要前去围着城转，先锋队要走在上主约柜的前面。＂
8 At this order they proceeded, with the seven priests who carried the ram's horns before the LORD blowing their horns, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD following them.
若苏厄对百姓说完话以后，那七位带着七个羊角号的司祭，走在上主前面，吹着号角，上主的约柜跟在他们后面。
9 In front of the priests with the horns marched the picked troops; the rear guard followed the ark, and the blowing of horns was kept up continually as they marched.
先锋队走在吹号角的司祭前面，后卫随着约柜，一面走，一面吹号角。
10 But the people had been commanded by Joshua not to shout or make any noise or outcry until he gave the word: only then were they to shout.
若苏厄向百姓下令说：＂你们不可叫喊，不可叫人听到你们的声音，连一句话也不可出口，直到我给你们说：＂叫喊＂那天，你们才可叫喊。
11 So he had the ark of the LORD circle the city, going once around it, after which they returned to camp for the night.
这样上主的约柜围城转了一遭后，众人就回到营中，在营中过夜。
12 Early the next morning, Joshua had the priests take up the ark of the LORD.
若苏厄清早起来，司祭又抬起上主的约柜，
13 The seven priests bearing the ram's horns marched in front of the ark of the LORD, blowing their horns. Ahead of these marched the picked troops, while the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, and the blowing of horns was kept up continually.
七位司祭带了七个羊号角，走在上主约柜前面，一面走，一面吹号角；先锋队走在他们前面，后卫随在上主约柜后面，一面走，一面吹号角。
14 On this second day they again marched around the city once before returning to camp; and for six days in all they did the same.
第二天他们围城转了一遭后，又回到营中；他们这样行了六天。
15 On the seventh day, beginning at daybreak, they marched around the city seven times in the same manner; on that day only did they march around the city seven times.
到了第七天，早晨黎明时，他们起来，照样围城转了七遭。惟独这一天围城转了七遭。
16 The seventh time around, the priests blew the horns and Joshua said to the people, ＂Now shout, for the LORD has given you the city
到了第七遭，司祭们吹起了号角，若苏厄吩咐百姓说：＂你们叫喊，因为上主已将这城交给了你们。
17 and everything in it. It is under the LORD'S ban. Only the harlot Rahab and all who are in the house with her are to be spared, because she hid the messengers we sent.
这城和城中所有的一切，都应全完毁灭，归于上主，只有妓女辣哈布和她家中的人口可以生存，因为她隐藏了我们所派的使者。
18 1 But be careful not to take, in your greed, anything that is under the ban; else you will bring upon the camp of Israel this ban and the misery of it.
但你们要小心，不可私自取用这些应毁灭之物，免得你们贪心，窃取应毁灭之物，使以色列全营遭受诅咒，陷于不幸。
19 All silver and gold, and the articles of bronze or iron, are sacred to the LORD. They shall be put in the treasury of the LORD.＂
至于所有的金银，以及铜铁的器皿，都应奉献给上主，归入上主的府库。＂
20 2 As the horns blew, the people began to shout. When they heard the signal horn, they raised a tremendous shout. The wall collapsed, and the people stormed the city in a frontal attack and took it.
百姓于是叫喊，号声四起；百姓一听到了号角声，放声大叫，城墙便坍塌了；百姓遂上了城，个个向前直冲，攻陷了那城。
21 They observed the ban by putting to the sword all living creatures in the city: men and women, young and old, as well as oxen, sheep and asses.
将城中所有的一切，不论男女老幼，牛羊驴马，都用利剑杀尽。
22 Joshua directed the two men who had spied out the land, ＂Go into the harlot's house and bring out the woman with all her kin, as you swore to her you would do.＂
若苏厄吩咐侦探这地的两个人说：＂你们到那妓女家里去，照你们对她起的誓，将那女人和她所有的家人，从那里领出来。＂
23 The spies entered and brought out Rahab, with her father, mother, brothers, and all her kin. Her entire family they led forth and placed them outside the camp of Israel.
那两个年轻侦探就去将辣哈布和她的父母、兄弟和她所有的家人，并她所有的亲戚，都领了出来，安置在以色列营外。
24 The city itself they burned with all that was in it, except the silver, gold, and articles of bronze and iron, which were placed in the treasury of the house of the LORD.
此后众人将城和城中所有的一切都用火烧了；惟独把金银以及铜铁的器皿，送入上主居所的府库中。
25 3 Because Rahab the harlot had hidden the messengers whom Joshua had sent to reconnoiter Jericho, Joshua spared her with her family and all her kin, who continue in the midst of Israel to this day.
至于妓女辣哈布与她父家，并她所有的家人，若苏厄使之生存，直到今天，她还住在以色列人中，因为她隐藏了若苏厄派去侦探耶里哥的两个使者。
26 4 On that occasion Joshua imposed the oath: Cursed before the LORD be the man who attempts to rebuild this city, Jericho. He shall lose his first-born when he lays its foundation, and he shall lose his youngest son when he sets up its gates.
那时若苏厄起誓说：＂凡着手重建这耶里哥城的人，在上主面前是可咒骂的。他奠基时必丧失长子，按门时必丧失幼儿。＂
27 Thus the LORD was with Joshua so that his fame spread throughout the land.
上主与若苏厄同在，他的名声传遍了那一带地方。

Chapter 7
1 But the Israelites violated the ban; Achan, son of Carmi, son of Zerah, son of Zara of the tribe of Judah, took goods that were under the ban, and the anger of the LORD flared up against the Israelites.
以色列子民在应毁灭之物上犯了罪；那是因为犹大支派中，则辣黑的曾孙，匝贝狄的孙子，加尔米的儿子阿干，取了应毁灭之物，上主对以色列子民发了大怒。
2 Joshua next sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Bethel on its eastern side, with instructions to go up and reconnoiter the land. When they had explored Ai,
若苏厄从耶里哥派人到哈依去，──这城位于贝特耳东方贝特阿文附近──吩咐他们说：＂你们上去，侦察那地。＂那些人便上去侦察了哈衣。
3 they returned to Joshua and advised, ＂Do not send all the people up; if only about two or three thousand go up, they can overcome Ai. The enemy there are few; you need not call for an effort from all the people.＂
他们回来对若苏厄说：＂不需要众百姓都上去，只派两三千人去攻打哈依就够了，不必劳动全体百姓，因为他们人数不多。＂
4 About three thousand of the people made the attack, but they were defeated by those at Ai,
这样百姓中约有三千人上去攻打哈依，不料他们由哈依人面前逃跑了。
5 who killed some thirty-six of them. They pressed them back across the clearing in front of the city gate till they broke ranks, and defeated them finally on the descent, so that the confidence of the people melted away like water.
哈依人出击，杀了他们约有三十六人，从城门前追击他们，直追到舍巴陵，在斜坡上又杀败了他们，因此百姓的勇气像水一样消散了。
6 Joshua, together with the elders of Israel, rent his garments and lay prostrate before the ark of the LORD until evening; and they threw dust on their heads.
若苏厄撕破自己的衣服，和以色列的长老，在上主约柜前俯伏在地，一直到晚上，各在头上撒上灰土。
7 ＂Alas, O Lord GOD,＂ Joshua prayed, ＂why did you ever allow this people to pass over the Jordan, delivering us into the power of the Amorites, that they might destroy us? Would that we had been content to dwell on the other side of the Jordan.
若苏厄说：＂唉，我主上主！你为什么领这百姓渡过约但河，是为将我们交于阿摩黎人手中，让我们消灭吗？巴不得我们住在约但河那边倒好！
8 Pray, Lord, what can I say, now that Israel has turned its back to its enemies?
唉我主！以色列人既然由敌人前转身逃跑，我还说什么呢？
9 When the Canaanites and the other inhabitants of the land hear of it, they will close in around us and efface our name from the earth. What will you do for your great name?＂
当客纳罕人和这地方所有的居民听说这事，必来围攻我们，从地上将我们的名字抹去，那时你对你的大名要怎样办呢？＂
10 The LORD replied to Joshua: ＂Stand up. Why are you lying prostrate?
上主对若苏厄说：＂起来，为什么老是伏在地上？
11 Israel has sinned: they have violated the covenant which I enjoined on them. They have stealthily taken goods subject to the ban, and have deceitfully put them in their baggage.
以色列犯了罪，违背了我在盟约上给他们规定的，取了应毁灭之物，又偷又骗，并将应毁灭之物放在自己行囊里。
12 If the Israelites cannot stand up to their enemies, but must turn their back to them, it is because they are under the ban. I will not remain with you unless you remove from among you whoever has incurred the ban.
以色列所以扺挡不了敌人，由敌人前转身逃跑，是因为他们成了当诅咒的，除非你们将那应毁灭之物，由你们中间除掉，我不再与你们同在。
13 Rise, sanctify the people. Tell them to sanctify themselves before tomorrow, for the LORD, the God of Israel, says: You are under the ban, O Israel. You cannot stand up to your enemies until you remove from among you whoever has incurred the ban.
起来，叫百姓圣洁自己，吩咐他们说：你们明天要圣洁自己，因为上主以色列的天主这样说：以色列！你们中间有应毁灭之物，除非将应毁灭之物，由你们中间除掉，你们决抵挡不住敌人。
14 In the morning you must present yourselves by tribes. The tribe which the LORD designates shall come forward by clans; the clan which the LORD designates shall come forward by families; the family which the LORD designates shall come forward one by one.
所以明早你们应按支派前来。上主使那支派中签，这支派的宗族都应前来；上主使那宗族中签，这家族的宗族都应前来；上主使那家室中签，这家的男子应一个一个地前来。
15 He who is designated as having incurred the ban shall be destroyed by fire, with all that is his, because he has violated the covenant of the LORD and has committed a shameful crime in Israel.＂
若藏有应毁灭之物的人中了签，他和他所有的一切都应用火焚烧，因为他违犯了上主的约定，在以色列中间做了胡涂的事。＂
16 1 Early the next morning Joshua had Israel come forward by tribes, and the tribe of Judah was designated.
若苏厄清早起来，命以色列按着支派一一前来，犹大支派中了签。
17 Then he had the clans of Judah come forward, and the clan of Zerah was designated. He had the clan of Zerah come forward by families, and Zabdi was designated.
他叫犹大支派前来，则辣黑宗族中了签；遂叫则辣黑宗族前来，匝贝狄家室中了签；
18 Finally he had that family come forward one by one, and Achan, son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah of the tribe of Judah, was designated.
此后，又叫他的家室前来，叫男丁一个一个地前来，阿干中了签──阿干是加尔米的儿子，加尔米是匝贝狄的儿子，匝贝狄是则辣黑的儿子，属犹大支派。
19 Joshua said to Achan, ＂My son, give to the LORD, the God of Israel, glory and honor by telling me what you have done; do not hide it from me.＂
若苏厄遂对阿干说：＂我儿，你应归光荣于上主，以色列的天主，向衪认罪。请告诉我，你作了什么事，不要隐瞒我。＂
20 Achan answered Joshua, ＂I have indeed sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel. This is what I have done:
阿干回答若苏厄说：＂我实在得罪了上主，以色列的天主。我是如此这般作的；
21 Among the spoils, I saw a beautiful Babylonian mantle, two hundred shekels of silver, and a bar of gold fifty shekels in weight; in my greed I took them. They are now hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath.＂
我在战利品中，见了一件美丽的史纳尔外氅，二百＂协刻耳＂银子，一条重五十＂协刻耳＂的金条，我因贪爱便拿走了，现在藏在我帐幕中的地下，银子在这些东西下面。＂
22 The messengers whom Joshua sent hastened to the tent and found them hidden there, with the silver underneath.
若苏厄即刻派差役跑到他帐幕里面，果然那些东西在他帐幕内藏着，银子在下面。
23 They took them from the tent, brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites, and spread them out before the LORD.
差役便从帐幕里拿出来，带到若苏厄和所有以色列子民那里，摆在上主面前。
24 Then Joshua and all Israel took Achan, son of Zerah, with the silver, the mantle, and the bar of gold, and with his sons and daughters, his ox, his ass and his sheep, his tent, and all his possessions, and led them off to the Valley of Achor.
若苏厄和所有以色列人，将则辣黑的曾孙阿干和那银子、外氅、金条，并他的子女、牛、驴、羊、帐幕，以及他所有的一切，都带到阿苛尔山谷。
25 Joshua said, ＂The LORD bring upon you today the misery with which you have afflicted us!＂ And all Israel stoned him to death
若苏厄说：＂你为什么给我们招来祸患？今天上主必要叫你遭祸。＂以色列民众于是用石头将他砸死。众人用石头砸死他们以后，将一切用火烧了。
26 2 and piled a great heap of stones over him, which remains to the present day. Then the anger of the LORD relented. That is why the place is called the Valley of Achor to this day.
以后，又在阿干身上堆上了一大堆石头，这堆石头一直存到今日；上主于是撤回了盛怒。因此那地方直到今日叫做阿苛尔山谷。

Chapter 8
1 The LORD then said to Joshua,＂Do not be afraid or dismayed. Take all the army with you and prepare to attack Ai. I have delivered the king of Ai into your power, with his people, city, and land.
以后上主对若苏厄说：＂你不要害怕，不要胆怯，只管率领所有的军民，前去进攻哈依城。看，我已将哈依王，他的百姓、城池和土地，都交在你手中。
2 Do to Ai and its king what you did to Jericho and its king; except that you may take its spoil and livestock as booty. Set an ambush behind the city.＂
你要对待哈依城和哈依王，如同对待耶里哥和耶里哥王一样；只有城中的战利品和牲畜，你们可据为己有。你应在城后面，设下攻城的伏兵。＂
3 1 So Joshua and all the soldiers prepared to attack Ai. Picking out thirty thousand warriors, Joshua sent them off by night
若苏厄于是与所有的军民起身前去进攻哈依城。若苏厄选了三万精兵，派他们黑夜出发，
4 with these orders:＂See that you ambush the city from the rear, at no great distance; then all of you be on the watch.
吩咐他们说：＂你们要注意，在城那边，即在城后面埋伏下，不可离城太远，个个都要戒备；
5 The rest of the people and I will come up to the city, and when they make a sortie against us as they did the last time, we will flee from them.
我和我率领的人，向城推进；当他们像前次一样出来迎击我们时，我们就由他们面前逃走，
6 They will keep coming out after us until we have drawn them away from the city, for they will think we are fleeing from them as we did the last time. When this occurs,
他们一定出来追赶我们。我们将他们诱出城来，他们必说：这些人像前次一样，又由我们面前逃走了。我们就由他们面前逃走。
7 rise from ambush and take possession of the city, which the LORD, your God, will deliver into your power.
那时你们应从埋伏的地方出来，占领城市，上主你们的天主必将这城交在你们手中。
8 When you have taken the city, set it afire in obedience to the LORD'S command. These are my orders to you.＂
你们一占领了城，就放火烧城，全照上主的话执行。你们应注意我吩咐你们的事。＂
9 Then Joshua sent them away. They went to the place of ambush, taking up their position to the west of Ai, toward Bethel. Joshua, however, spent that night in the plain.
若苏厄就打发他们去了。他们便开到埋伏的地方，停在贝特耳和哈依之间，在哈依西面。那一夜若苏厄便在百姓中间过了夜。
10 Early the next morning Joshua mustered the army and went up to Ai at its head, with the elders of Israel.
若苏厄清早起来，点齐军民；然后和以色列的长老，在军人前头向哈依城进发。
11 When all the troops he led were drawn up in position before the city, they pitched camp north of Ai, on the other side of the ravine.
跟随他的所有军人也都一齐进发，迫近城下，在哈依北面扎了营。原来在他和哈依中间隔着一个山谷。
12 (He took about five thousand men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, west of the city.)
若苏厄调了约五千人，令他们埋伏在贝特耳和哈依之间，即在哈依西面。
13 Thus the people took up their stations, with the main body north of the city and the ambush west of it, and Joshua waited overnight among his troops.
这样城北的军民和城西的伏兵，都严阵以待。当夜若苏厄就在谷中过了夜。
14 The king of Ai saw this, and he and all his army came out very early in the morning to engage Israel in battle at the descent toward the Arabah, not knowing that there was an ambush behind the city.
哈依王一见这情形，便和全城的人急忙起来，到了面对阿辣巴的山坡，要和以色列人交战，但他没有料到城后面还有伏兵。
15 Joshua and the main body of the Israelites fled in seeming defeat toward the desert,
若苏厄和以色列人在他们面前诈败，沿着往旷野的路奔逃，
16 till the last of the soldiers in the city had been called out to pursue them.
城中的人尽被征调，在后追赶。当他们追赶若苏厄时，都被诱出城来；
17 Since they were drawn away from the city, with every man engaged in this pursuit of Joshua and the Israelites, not a soldier remained in Ai (or Bethel), and the city was open and unprotected.
在哈依和贝特耳没有留下一个人不出来追赶以色列人的。他们拋下敞开的城门，都去追赶以色列人。
18 Then the LORD directed Joshua,＂Stretch out the javelin in your hand toward Ai, for I will deliver it into your power.＂ Joshua stretched out the javelin in his hand toward the city,
这时上主对若苏厄说：＂将你手中的短剑指向哈依城，因为我即将这城交于你手中。＂若苏厄便将手中的短剑指向哈依城。
19 and as soon as he did so, the men in ambush rose from their post, rushed in, captured the city, and immediately set it on fire.
他一伸手，伏兵即由埋伏的地方奋起，冲进城中，将城占领，急速放火烧城。
20 By the time the men of Ai looked back, the smoke from the city was already sky-high. Escape in any direction was impossible, because the Israelites retreating toward the desert now turned on their pursuers;
哈依人回头，看见城内浓烟冲天，都没有了往前后逃跑的力量，因为此时向旷野奔逃的以色列人，忽然转过身来还击追赶自己的哈依人。
21 for when Joshua and the main body of Israelites saw that the city had been taken from ambush and was going up in smoke, they struck back at the men of Ai.
若苏厄和全以色列见伏兵已夺了城，城内烟气上腾，便转身回来击杀哈依人。
22 Since those in the city came out to intercept them, the men of Ai were hemmed in by Israelites on either side, who cut them down without any fugitives or survivors
伏兵也由城中出来夹击，哈依人便被包围在以色列人中间，前后受敌；以色列人将他们完全杀尽，没有留下一个，也没有逃走一个。
23 except the king, whom they took alive and brought to Joshua.
他们生摛了哈依王，把他解到若苏厄面前。
24 All the inhabitants of Ai who had pursued the Israelites into the desert were slain by the sword there in the open, down to the last man. Then all Israel returned and put to the sword those inside the city.
以色列人在旷野的平原上，杀尽了追赶自己的一切哈依居民，哈依人全都死于刀下；以后，全以色列人又回到哈依，杀尽城中的人。
25 There fell that day a total of twelve thousand men and women, the entire population of Ai.
那天被杀的人，男女共计一万二千，都是哈依人。
26 Joshua kept the javelin in his hand stretched out until he had fulfilled the doom on all the inhabitants of Ai.
若苏厄在没有杀尽哈依的一切居民前，一直没有收回自己手中所持的短剑。
27 However, the Israelites took for themselves as booty the livestock and the spoil of that city, according to the command of the LORD issued to Joshua.
惟有城中的牲畜和财物，以色列人依照上主吩咐若苏厄的话，据为己有。
28 Then Joshua destroyed the place by fire, reducing it to an everlasting mound of ruins, as it remains today.
然后若苏厄焚毁哈依城，使之永远成为废墟，时至今日，仍是一片荒凉；
29 He had the king of Ai hanged on a tree until evening; then at sunset Joshua ordered the body removed from the tree and cast at the entrance of the city gate, where a great heap of stones was piled up over it, which remains to the present day.
又将哈依王悬在树上，直到黄昏；日落时，若苏厄令人将他的死尸从树上卸下，丢在城门口，在他身上又堆了一大堆石头，直存到今日。
30 2 Later Joshua built an altar to the LORD, the God of Israel, on Mount Ebal,
那时，若苏厄在厄巴耳山，为上主以色列的天主，筑了一座祭坛；
31 of unhewn stones on which no iron tool had been used, in keeping with the command to the Israelites of Moses, the servant of the LORD, as recorded in the book of the law. On this altar they offered holocausts and peace offerings to the LORD.
全照上主的仆人梅瑟向以色列子民所吩咐的，全照梅瑟法律书上所记载的，用没有动过铁器的整块石头，筑了一座祭坛，在上面向上主献了全燔祭，祭杀了和平祭牺牲。
32 There, in the presence of the Israelites, Joshua inscribed upon the stones a copy of the law written by , Moses.
若苏厄又在那里将梅瑟当着以色列子民的面所写的法律，刻在石头上。
33 And all Israel, stranger and native alike, with their elders, officers and judges, stood on either side of the ark facing the levitical priests who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD. Half of them were facing Mount Gerizim and half Mount Ebal, thus carrying out the instructions of Moses, the servant of the LORD, for the blessing of the people of Israel on this first occasion.
以色列全体民众和他们的长老、领袖、判官，连侨居的人和土生的人，一半向着革黎斤山，一半向着厄巴耳山，正如上主的仆人梅瑟，当初为祝福以色列百姓所命令的。
34 Then were read aloud all the words of the law, the blessings and the curses, exactly as written in the book of the law.

35 Every single word that Moses had commanded, Joshua read aloud to the entire community, including the women and children, and the strangers who had accompanied Israel.

Chapter 9
1 When the news reached the kings west of the Jordan, in the mountain regions and in the foothills, and all along the coast of the Great Sea as far as Lebanon: Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites,
约但河西，住在山地和平原并沿大海一带直到黎巴嫩山的众王子，即赫特人、阿摩黎人、客纳罕人、培黎齐人、希威人和耶步斯人，听见了这些事，
2 they all formed an alliance to launch a common attack against Joshua and Israel.
就联合起来，同心协力对抗若苏厄和以色列人。
3 On learning what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai, the inhabitants of Gibeon
基贝红居民听说若苏厄对耶里哥和哈依所行的事，
4 put into effect a device of their own. They chose provisions for a journey, making use of old sacks for their asses, and old wineskins, torn and mended.
便设诡计带着行粮上路，将一些旧布袋和破裂缝补的旧酒囊驮在驴上；
5 They wore old, patched sandals and shabby garments; and all the bread they took was dry and crumbly.
脚上穿著补过的破鞋，身上穿著褴褛的衣服；所带的食物，又干又碎，
6 Thus they journeyed to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal, where they said to him and to the men of Israel, ＂We have come from a distant land to propose that you make an alliance with us.＂
来到基耳加耳营中见若苏厄；对他和以色列人说：＂我们是远方来的，现在请你们与我们立约。＂
7 1 But the men of Israel replied to the Hivites, ＂You may be living in land that is ours. How, then, can we make an alliance with you?＂

8 But they answered Joshua, ＂We are your servants.＂ Then Joshua asked them, ＂Who are you? Where do you come from?＂

9 They answered him, ＂Your servants have come from a far-off land, because of the fame of the LORD, your God. For we have heard reports of all that he did in Egypt

10 and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites beyond the Jordan, Sihon, king of Heshbon, and Og, king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth.

11 So our elders and all the inhabitants of our country said to us,‘Take along provisions for the journey and go to meet them. Say to them: We are your servants; we propose that you make an alliance with us.'
为此，我们的长老和我们本地的居民，对我们说：你们手中带些路上用的食物，去迎接以色列人；对他们说：我们是你们的仆人，现在请你们与我们立约。
12 This bread of ours was still warm when we brought it from home as provisions the day we left to come to you, but now it is dry and crumbled.
看，这就是我们的食物，我们从家中带出来，要到你们这里来的那天还热，看，现在又干又碎；
13 Here are our wineskins, which were new when we filled them, but now they are torn. Look at our garments and sandals, which are worn out from the very long journey.＂
这就是我们的酒囊，才盛酒的时候还新，看，现在都破裂了；这是我们的衣服和鞋，为了路途遥远，都穿烂了。＂
14 Then the Israelite princes partook of their provisions, without seeking the advice of the LORD.
以色列的首领便取了些他们的行粮，并没有请求上主的谕示；
15 So Joshua made an alliance with them and entered into an agreement to spare them, which the princes of the community sealed with an oath.
若苏厄便与他们修好，与他们立了约，让他们生存，会众的首领也向他们起了誓。
16 Three days after the agreement was entered into, the Israelites learned that these people were from nearby, and would be living in Israel.
但是，与他们立约后过了三天，以色列人就听说，他们是住在自己附近的居民。
17 The third day on the road, the Israelites came to their cities of Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth and Kiriath-jearim,
以色列子民于是动身，第三天便到了他们的城市：就是基贝红、革非辣、贝洛特和克黎雅特耶阿陵。
18 but did not attack them, because the princes of the community had sworn to them by the LORD, the God of Israel. When the entire community grumbled against the princes,

19 these all remonstrated with the people, ＂We have sworn to them by the LORD, the God of Israel, and so we cannot harm them.
众首领对全会众说：＂我们既已指着上主以色列的天主对他们起誓，那么我们决不能加害他们，
20 Let us therefore spare their lives and so deal with them that we shall not be punished for the oath we have sworn to them.＂
只有这样做，就是让他们生存下去，免得因我们对他们所起的誓，为我们招来上主的义怒。＂
21 2 Thus the princes recommended that they be let live, as hewers of wood and drawers of water for the entire community; and the community did as the princes advised them.
首领又对民众说：＂让他们生存下去，但他们应为全会众劈柴挑水。＂全会众便遵照首领的话而行。
22 Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said to them, ＂Why did you lie to us and say that you lived at a great distance from us, when you will be living in our very midst?
若苏厄将基贝红人召来，对他们说：＂你们为什么欺骗我们说：我们离你们很远，其实你们就住在我们附近？
23 For this are you accursed: every one of you shall always be a slave (hewers of wood and drawers of water) for the house of my God.＂
从此你们应受诅咒，你们中间，决不断要有人在我天主的殿内，做劈柴挑水的劳役。＂
24 They answered Joshua, ＂Your servants were fully informed of how the LORD, your God, commanded his servant Moses that you be given the entire land and that all its inhabitants be destroyed before you. Since, therefore, at your advance, we were in great fear for our lives, we acted as we did.
他们回答若苏厄说：＂你的仆人们确实听说：上主你的天主，曾吩咐衪的仆人梅瑟，要把这整块土地赐给你们，并在你们面前，将这地方上的一切居民消灭；我们见你们前来，我们实在为我们的生命担忧，所以才做了这事。
25 And now that we are in your power, do with us what you think fit and right.＂
现在，我们都在你手里，你以为怎样好，怎样对，就怎样对待我们罢！＂
26 3 Joshua did what he had decided: while he saved them from being killed by the Israelites,
若苏厄就这样对待了他们：将他们由以色列人手中救出，不让人加害他们。
27 at the same time he made them, as they still are, hewers of wood and drawers of water for the community and for the altar of the LORD, in the place of the LORD'S choice.

Chapter 10
1 Now Adonizedek, king of Jerusalem, heard that, in the capture and destruction of Ai, Joshua had done to that city and its king as he had done to Jericho and its king. He heard also that the inhabitants of Gibeon had made their peace with Israel, remaining among them,
当耶路撒冷王阿多尼责德克听说若苏厄攻占了哈依，完全予以毁灭，对待哈依和哈依王如对待耶里哥和耶里哥王一样；又听说基贝红居民已与以色列媾和，可住在他们中间，
2 and that there was great fear abroad, because Gibeon was large enough for a royal city, larger even than the city of Ai, and all its men were brave.

3 So Adonizedek, king of Jerusalem, sent for Hoham, king of Hebron, Piram, king of Jarmuth, Japhia, king of Lachish, and Debir, king of Eglon,
耶路撒冷王阿多尼责德克遂打发使者去见赫贝龙王曷罕、雅尔慕特王丕兰、拉基士王雅非亚和厄革隆王德彼尔说：
4 to come to his aid for an attack on Gibeon, since it had concluded peace with Joshua and the Israelites.
＂请你们前来援助我，攻打基贝红，因为这城已与若苏厄和以色列人媾和。＂
5 1 The five Amorite kings, of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon, united all their forces and marched against Gibeon, where they took up siege positions.
那五个阿摩黎王，即耶路撒冷王、赫贝龙王、雅尔慕特王、拉基士王和厄革隆王联合起来，率领他们所有的军队上去包围了基贝红，合力进攻。
6 Thereupon, the men of Gibeon sent an appeal to Joshua in his camp at Gilgal: ＂Do not abandon your servants. Come up here quickly and save us. Help us, because all the Amorite kings of the mountain country have joined forces against us.＂
基贝红即派人到基耳加耳营中见若苏厄说：＂你不要袖手不顾你的仆人，请快上来援救，扶助我们，因为住在山地的众阿摩黎王都联合起来攻击我们。＂
7 So Joshua marched up from Gilgal with his picked troops and the rest of his soldiers.
若苏厄遂亲率他的一切军民，和所有的精兵，从基耳加耳上去了。
8 Meanwhile the LORD said to Joshua, ＂Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your power. Not one of them will be able to withstand you.＂
上主对若苏厄说：＂你不要怕他们，因为我已将他们交在你手中，没有一人能抵抗你。＂
9 And when Joshua made his surprise attack upon them after an all-night march from Gilgal,
若苏厄由基耳加耳出发，整夜行军，出其不意，突然向他们进攻。
10 the LORD threw them into disorder before him. The Israelites inflicted a great slaughter on them at Gibeon and pursued them down the Beth-horon slope, harrassing them as far as Azekah and Makkedah.
上主使他们在以色列人前大为混乱，以色列人在基贝红将他们完全击败，随后在往贝特曷龙的上坡路上追赶他们，击杀他们直到阿则卡，直到玛刻达。
11 2 While they fled before Israel along the descent from Beth-horon, the LORD hurled great stones from the sky above them all the way to Azekah, killing many. More died from these hailstones than the Israelites slew with the sword.
当他们逃避以色列人，来到贝特曷龙下坡时，上主从天上降下冰雹，落在他们身上，直落到阿则卡，死伤无数；为冰雹砸死的人，比以色列用刀杀死的还多。
12 On this day, when the LORD delivered up the Amorites to the Israelites,Joshua prayed to the LORD,and said in the presence of Israel:
Stand still, O sun, at Gibeon,O moon, in the valley of Aijalon!
上主将阿摩黎人交于以色列子民的那一天，若苏厄当着以色列人的面对上主说：＂太阳！停在基贝红！月亮！停在阿雅隆谷！＂
13 3 And the sun stood still,
太阳果然停住，
and the moon stayed,
月亮站住不动，
while the nation took vengeance on its foes.
直到百姓报复了自己的仇敌。
Is this not recorded in the Book of Jashar? The sun halted in the middle of the sky; not for a whole day did it resume its swift course.
这事岂不是记载在＂义士书＂上了吗？太阳停在空中，未急速下落，约有一整天。
14 Never before or since was there a day like this, when the LORD obeyed the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel.
以前或以后，从来没有一天像这天一样。上主这样俯听了人的呼声，因为是上主在为以色列人作战。
15 (Then Joshua and all Israel returned to the camp at Gilgal.)
此后，若苏厄和所有跟随他的以色列人，回了基耳加耳营。
16 Meanwhile the five kings who had fled, hid in a cave at Makkedah.
至于那五个逃脱的王子，藏在玛刻达山洞里，
17 When Joshua was told that the five kings had been discovered hiding in a cave at Makkedah,
有人来通知若苏厄说：＂那五个王子已被发现，藏在玛刻达山洞里。＂
18 he said, ＂Roll large stones to the mouth of the cave and post men over it to guard them.
若苏厄吩咐说：＂你们把几块大石滚到洞口，派人看守。
19 But do not remain there yourselves. Pursue your enemies, and harry them in the rear. Do not allow them to escape to their cities, for the LORD, your God, has delivered them into your power.＂
你们不可停下来，要去追赶敌人，切断他们的后路，不容他们逃入城中，因为上主你们的天主，已将他们交在你们手中。＂
20 Once Joshua and the Israelites had finally inflicted the last blows in this very great slaughter, and the survivors had escaped from them into the fortified cities,
若苏厄和以色列子民杀得他们惨败，几乎将他们全部消灭，只剩下一些逃脱的人进入了坚城。
21 all the army returned safely to Joshua and the camp at Makkedah, no man uttering a sound against the Israelites.
军民都平安无恙地回到玛克达营见若苏厄。以后没有人再敢侮辱以色列子民。
22 Then Joshua said, ＂Open the mouth of the cave and bring out those five kings to me.＂
那时若苏厄说：＂你们去打开洞口，把五个王子从洞里拉出来，带到我这里来。＂
23 Obediently, they brought out to him from the cave the five kings, of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon.
人就去，将那五个王子，就是耶路撒冷王、赫贝龙王、雅尔慕特王、拉基士王和厄革隆王，从洞里拉出，带到他面前，
24 When they had done so, Joshua summoned all the men of Israel and said to the commanders of the soldiers who had marched with him, ＂Come forward and put your feet on the necks of these kings.＂ They came forward and put their feet upon their necks.
当人们把那些王子带到若苏厄面前时，若苏厄将所有的以色列人召来，对那些与他同去作战的军长说：＂你们前来，将脚踏在这些王子的脖子上！＂他们就前来，将脚踏在那些王子的脖子上。
25 Then Joshua said to them, ＂Do not be afraid or dismayed, be firm and steadfast. This is what the LORD will do to all the enemies against whom you fight.＂
若苏厄对他们说：＂你们不要害怕，不要沮丧，只要勇敢果断，因为上主必要这样对待你们所征服的一切仇人。＂
26 Thereupon Joshua struck and killed them, and hanged them on five trees, where they remained hanging until evening.

27 At sunset they were removed from the trees at the command of Joshua and cast into the cave where they had hidden; over the mouth of the cave large stones were placed, which remain until this very day.
到太阳快落时候，若苏厄命人将他们由树上放下来，丢在他们藏过的山洞里，用大石头塞住洞口；那些大石至今尚在。
28 Makkedah, too, Joshua captured and put to the sword at that time. He fulfilled the doom on the city, on its king, and on every person in it, leaving no survivors. Thus he did to the king of Makkedah what he had done to the king of Jericho.
若苏厄当天就占领了玛刻达，并用利剑击杀了那城和城中的王子，并将城中的一切生灵完全毁灭，一个也没有留下；他对待玛刻达王如对待耶里哥王一样。
29 Joshua then passed on with all Israel from Makkedah to Libnah, which he attacked.

30 Libnah also, with its king, the LORD delivered into the power of Israel. He put it to the sword with every person there, leaving no survivors. Thus he did to its king what he had done to the king of Jericho.
上主也将这城和城中的王子交在以色列人手中；他们用利剑击杀了城和城中的一切生灵，一个也没有留下；他对待这城中的王子，如对待耶里哥王一样。
31 Joshua next passed on with all Israel from Libnah to Lachish, where they set up a camp during the attack.
若苏厄和跟随他的众以色列人，又从里贝纳往拉基士推进，围攻拉基士，
32 The LORD delivered Lachish into the power of Israel, so that on the second day Joshua captured it and put it to the sword with every person in it, just as he had done to Libnah.
上主将拉基士也交在以色列人手中。第二天若苏厄就攻取了拉基士，用利剑击杀了那城和城中的一切生灵，全如对待里贝纳一样。
33 At that time Horam, king of Gezer, came up to help Lachish, but Joshua defeated him and his people, leaving him no survivors.
那时革则尔王曷兰上来援救拉基士，若苏厄也将他和他的人民杀尽，一个也没有留下。
34 From Lachish, Joshua passed on with all Israel to Eglon; encamping near it, they attacked it
此后，若苏厄和跟随他的众以色列人，由拉基士往厄革隆推进，围攻厄革隆。
35 and captured it the same day, putting it to the sword. He fulfilled the doom that day on every person in it, just as he had done at Lachish.

36 From Eglon, Joshua went up with all Israel to Hebron, which they attacked

37 and captured. They put it to the sword with its king, all its towns, and every person there, leaving no survivors, just as Joshua had done to Eglon. He fulfilled the doom on it and on every person there.

38 Then Joshua and all Israel turned back to Debir and attacked it,

39 capturing it with its king and all its towns. They put them to the sword and fulfilled the doom on every person there, leaving no survivors. Thus was done to Debir and its king what had been done to Hebron, as well as to Libnah and its king.

40 Joshua conquered the entire country; the mountain regions, the Negeb, the foothills, and the mountain slopes, with all their kings. He left no survivors, but fulfilled the doom on all who lived there, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded.
若苏厄征服了那一带地方包括山地、乃革布、平原、山坡和那些地方的王子；并照上主以色列的天主的命令，消灭了所有的生灵，一个也没有留下，
41 4 Joshua conquered from Kadesh-barnea to Gaza, and all the land of Goshen to Gibeon.
由卡德士巴尔乃亚起，直到迦萨，以及哥笙全境，直到基贝红。
42 All these kings and their lands Joshua captured in a single campaign, for the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

43 Thereupon Joshua with all Israel returned to the camp at Gilgal.

The sun halted: though it is widely supposed that this passage describes in popular language and according to external appearances a miraculous lengthening of the day, it is equally probable that Joshua's prayer was rather for an abrupt obscuration of the sun, which would impede his enemies in their flight homeward and also prevent them from rallying their forces; this request would have been answered by the hailstorm (cf Sirach 46:5) and by a darkness relieved only twenty-four hours later, well into the next day.

Chapter 11
1 1 When Jabin, king of Hazor, learned of this, he sent a message to Jobab, king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph,
哈祚尔王雅宾一听见这事，便派人去见玛冬王约巴布，史默龙王，阿革沙夫王，
2 and to the northern kings in the mountain regions and in the Arabah near Chinneroth, in the foothills, and in Naphath-dor to the west.

3 These were Canaanites to the east and west, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites and Jebusites in the mountain regions, and Hivites at the foot of Hermon in the land of Mizpah.
又去见东西各地的客纳罕人、阿摩黎人、希威人、培黎齐人，以及住在山区的耶步斯人，和赫尔孟山麓米兹帕地方的赫特人。
4 They came out with all their troops, an army numerous as the sands on the seashore, and with a multitude of horses and chariots.

5 2 All these kings joined forces and marched to the waters of Merom, where they encamped together to fight against Israel.
这些王子都会合一起，来到默龙水边扎营，要同以色列人交战。
6 The LORD said to Joshua, ＂Do not fear them, for by this time tomorrow I will stretch them slain before Israel. You must hamstring their horses and burn their chariots.＂
上主对若苏厄说：＂在这些人面前，你不要害怕，因为明天这时，我必要使他们全在以色列人面前被杀；你要砍断他们的马蹄筋，火烧他们的车辆。＂
7 Joshua with his whole army came upon them at the waters of Merom in a surprise attack.

8 The LORD delivered them into the power of the Israelites, who defeated them and pursued them to Greater Sidon, to Misrephoth-maim, and eastward to the valley of Mizpeh. They struck them all down, leaving no survivors.
上主将他们交在以色列人手中，以色列人击杀他们，往西直追到大漆冬和米斯勒佛特玛殷，往东直追到米兹帕山谷，将他们杀得没有剩下一个。
9 Joshua did to them as the LORD had commanded: he hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots.

10 At that time Joshua, turning back, captured Hazor and slew its king with the sword; for Hazor formerly was the chief of all those kingdoms.

11 He also fulfilled the doom by putting every person there to the sword, till none was left alive. Hazor itself he burned.

12 Joshua thus captured all those kings with their cities and put them to the sword, fulfilling the doom on them, as Moses, the servant of the LORD, had commanded.
若苏厄夺取了那些王子的一切城邑，生擒那些王子，将王子用刀杀死，将城池完全予以毁灭，全照上主的仆人梅瑟所吩咐的。
13 However, Israel did not destroy by fire any of the cities built on raised sites, except Hazor, which Joshua burned.
至于那些处于土丘上的城市，除哈祚尔外，以色列人都没有焚毁：若苏厄只烧了哈祚尔。
14 The Israelites took all the spoil and livestock of these cities as their booty; but the people they put to the sword, until they had exterminated the last of them, leaving none alive.
那些城中所有的财物和牲畜，以色列人都抢了来，归为己有：所有的人都用刀杀死，完全予以毁灭，没有留下一个生灵。
15 As the LORD had commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua acted accordingly. He left nothing undone that the LORD had commanded Moses should be done.
上主怎样吩咐衪的仆人梅瑟，梅瑟也怎样吩咐了若苏厄，若苏厄也就怎样办了。凡上主吩咐梅瑟的事，若苏厄没有不照办的。
16 So Joshua captured all this land: the mountain regions, the entire Negeb, all the land of Goshen, the foothills, the Arabah, as well as the mountain regions and foothills of Israel,
这样，若苏厄占领了那整个地区：包括山地，整个南方，哥笙全境，平原，阿辣巴原野，以色列山地和附近平原，
17 from Mount Halak that rises toward Seir as far as Baal-gad in the Lebanon valley at the foot of Mount Hermon. All their kings he captured and put to death.
由上色依尔去的哈拉克山起，一直到赫尔孟山麓，黎巴嫩山谷间的巴尔加得：各城的王子都被生摛，都被杀死。
18 Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time.
若苏厄同这些王子交战，时日颇为长久，
19 With the exception of the Hivites who lived in Gibeon, no city made peace with the Israelites; all were taken in battle.
因为除住在基贝红的希威人外，没有一座城愿与以色列子民媾和，都是以色列人用武力攻取的。
20 For it was the design of the LORD to encourage them to wage war against Israel, that they might be doomed to destruction and thus receive no mercy, but be exterminated, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
原来这是上主的意思，叫他们心硬，来与以色列人交战，好使他们遭受无情的毁灭，彻底的破坏，正如上主对梅瑟所吩咐的。
21 3 At that time Joshua penetrated the mountain regions and exterminated the Anakim in Hebron, Debir, Anab, the entire mountain region of Judah, and the entire mountain region of Israel. Joshua fulfilled the doom on them and on their cities,
以后若苏厄出兵，消灭了赫贝龙、德彼尔、阿纳布山地、犹大山地和以色列山地所有的阿纳克人，毁灭了他们和他们所有的城市。
22 so that no Anakim were left in the land of the Israelites. However, some survived in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod.

23 4 Thus Joshua captured the whole country, just as the LORD had foretold to Moses. Joshua gave it to Israel as their heritage, apportioning it among the tribes. And the land enjoyed peace.

Chapter 12
1 1 The kings of the land east of the Jordan, from the River Arnon to Mount Hermon, including all the eastern section of the Arabah, whom the Israelites conquered and whose lands they occupied, were:

2 First, Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon. His domain extended from Aroer, which is on the bank of the Wadi Arnon, to include the wadi itself, and the land northward through half of Gilead to the Wadi Jabbok,

4 Secondly, Og, king of Bashan, a survivor of the Rephaim, who lived at Ashtaroth and Edrei.

5 He ruled over Mount Hermon, Salecah, and all Bashan as far as the boundary of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and over half of Gilead as far as the territory of Sihon, king of Heshbon.

14 However, to the tribe of Levi Moses assigned no heritage since, as the LORD had promised them, the LORD, the God of Israel, is their heritage.

15 What Moses gave to the Reubenite clans:

4 the descendants of Joseph formed two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. The Levites themselves received no share of the land except cities to live in, with their pasture lands for the cattle and flocks.

5 Thus, in apportioning the land, did the Israelites carry out the instructions of the LORD to Moses.

6 When the Judahites came up to Joshua in Gilgal, the Kenizzite Caleb, son of Jephunneh, said to him: "You know what the LORD said to the man of God, Moses, about you and me in Kadesh-barnea.
犹大的子孙来到基耳加耳见若苏厄时，刻纳次族耶孚乃的儿子加肋布对若苏厄说：“上主在卡德士巴尔乃亚，关于你和我对天主的人梅瑟所说的话，你是知道的。
7 I was forty years old when the servant of the LORD, Moses, sent me from Kadesh-barnea to reconnoiter the land; and I brought back to him a conscientious report.
当上主的仆人梅瑟从卡德士巴尔乃亚，派我去侦探这地方时，我正十四岁，我全按我的良心回报了衪。
8 My fellow scouts who went up with me discouraged the people, but I was completely loyal to the LORD, my God.

9 On that occasion Moses swore this oath, ‘The land where you have set foot shall become your heritage and that of your descendants forever, because you have been completely loyal to the LORD, my God.'

10 Now, as he promised, the LORD has preserved me while Israel was journeying through the desert, for the forty-five years since the LORD spoke thus to Moses; and although I am now eighty-five years old,
现在你看，自从上主对梅瑟说了这话，上主便照所应许的，使我又活了四十五年，经过了以色列人在旷野漂流的时期，现在我已是八十五岁的人了。
11 I am still as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me forth, with no less vigor whether for war or for ordinary tasks.

12 Give me, therefore, this mountain region which the LORD promised me that day, as you yourself heard. True, the Anakim are there, with large fortified cities, but if the LORD is with me I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD promised.＂
现在，请你将上主那天所许下的这山地赐给我，因为那天你也曾亲自听过这话。固然，那里有阿纳克人，城池又大又坚固，或许上主会与我同在，照上主所应许的，我能将他们赶走。＂
13 Joshua blessed Caleb, son of Jephunneh, and gave him Hebron as his heritage.
若苏厄就祝福了他，将赫贝龙给了耶孚乃的儿子加肋布作为产业。
14 Therefore Hebron remains the heritage of the Kenizzite Caleb, son of Jephunneh, to the present day, because he was completely loyal to the LORD, the God of Israel.
因此赫贝龙直到今日仍为刻纳次族人耶孚乃的儿子加肋布的产业，因为他始终服从了上主以色列的天主。
15 Hebron was formerly called Kiriath-arba, for Arba, the greatest among the Anakim. And the land enjoyed peace.

Chapter 15
1 The lot for the clans of the Judahite tribe fell in the extreme south toward the boundary of Edom, the desert of Zin in the Negeb.
犹大支派的子孙按照家族，抽签分得的土地是在极南部，以厄东边境为界，南至亲旷野。
2 The boundary there ran from the bay that forms the southern end of the Salt Sea,
南方的边界起自盐海顶端，即海湾南端，
3 southward below the pass of Akrabbim, across through Zin, up to a point south of Kadesh-barnea, across to Hezron, and up to Addar; from there, looping around Karka,

4 it crossed to Azmon and then joined the Wadi of Egypt before coming out at the sea. (This is your southern boundary.)

5 The eastern boundary was the Salt Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan.

8 1 Climbing again to the Valley of Ben-hinnom on the southern flank of the Jebusites (that is, Jerusalem), the boundary rose to the top of the mountain at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim, which bounds the Valley of Hinnom on the west.

9 From the top of the mountain it ran to the fountain of waters of Nephtoah, extended to the cities of Mount Ephron, and continued to Baalah, or Kiriath-jearim.

12 The western boundary was the Great Sea and its coast. This was the complete boundary of the clans of the Judahites.

13 As the LORD had commanded, Joshua gave Caleb, son of Jephunneh, a portion among the Judahites, namely, Kiriath-arba (Arba was the father of Anak), that is, Hebron.

1 [12-20] Benjamin's northern boundary (Joshua 18:12-13) corresponded to part of the southern boundary of Ephraim Joshua 16:1-2). Their western border (Joshua 1:14) was the eastern border of Dan (cf Joshua 19:40-47). Their southern boundary (Joshua 18:15-19) corresponded to part of the northern boundary of Judah (Joshua 15:6-9).
Chapter 19
1 The second lot fell to Simeon. The heritage of the clans of the tribe of Simeonites lay within that of the Judahites.

10 1 The third lot fell to the clans of the Zebulunites. The limit of their heritage was at Sarid.

11 Their boundary went up west. . . and through Mareal, reaching Dabbesheth and the wadi that is near Jokneam.

12 From Sarid eastward it ran to the district of Chisloth-tabor, on to Daberath, and up to Japhia.

50 In obedience to the command of the LORD, they gave him the city which he requested, Timnah-serah in the mountain region of Ephraim. He rebuilt the city and made it his home.

51 These are the final portions into which Eleazar the priest, Joshua, son of Nun, and the heads of families in the tribes of the Israelites divided the land by lot in the presence of the LORD, at the door of the meeting tent in Shiloh.

1 [10-16] Zebulun's territory was in the central section of the Plain of Esdraelon and of southern Galilee; it was bounded on the south by Manasseh, on the southeast by Issachar, on the northeast and north by Naphtali, and on the west by Asher. The site of the later city of Nazareth was within its borders. Bethlehem of Zebulun was, of course, distinct from the city of the same name in Judah. Twelve cities: apparently seven of the names are missing from Joshua 19:15 unless some of the places mentioned in Joshua 19:12-14 are to be included in the number.
2 [17-23] Issachar's land was on the eastern watershed of the Plain of Esdraelon, but also included the southeastern end of the Galilean mountains. It was surrounded by Manasseh on the south and east, by Naphtali on the north, and by Zebulun on the west. Jezreel (Joshua 19:18) dominated the plain to which it gave its name, the later form of which was Esdraelon.
3 [24-31] Asher inherited the western slope of the Galilean hills as far as the sea, with Manasseh to the south, Zebulun and Naphtali to the east, and Phoenicia to the north.
4 [32-39] Naphtali received eastern Galilee; Asher was to the west and Zebulun and Issachar were to the south, while the upper Jordan and Mount Hermon formed the eastern border. Part of the tribe of Dan later on occupied the northern extremity of Naphtali's lands, at the sources of the Jordan (Joshua 19:47).

Chapter 20
1 1 The LORD said to Joshua:

2 ＂Tell the Israelites to designate the cities of which I spoke to them through Moses,

3 to which one guilty of accidental and unintended homicide may flee for asylum from the avenger of blood.
好使无心误杀人的，能逃到那里去。这些城市作为你们逃避报血仇者的地方
4 To one of these cities the killer shall flee, and standing at the entrance of the city gate, he shall plead his case before the elders, who must receive him and assign him a place in which to live among them.
那误杀人的，只要逃往这些城中的一座，立于城门口，将自己的事，报告给这城的长老听；长老就该将他接入城中，给他地方，让他住在他们中间。
5 Though the avenger of blood pursues him, they are not to deliver up the homicide who slew his fellow man unintentionally and not out of previous hatred.

6 Once he has stood judgment before the community, he shall live on in that city till the death of the high priest who is in office at the time. Then the killer may go back home to his own city from which he fled.＂

7 So they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the mountain region of Naphtali, Shechem in the mountain region of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in the mountain region of Judah.

The forty-eight cities listed here were hardly the exclusive possession of the Levites; at least the more important of them, such as Hebron, Shechem and Ramoth in Gilead, were certainly peopled for the most part by the tribe in whose territory they were situated. But in all these cities the Levites had special property rights which they did not possess in other cities; cf Lev 25:32-34.
Chapter 22
1 At that time Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh

6 Joshua then blessed them and sent them away to their own tents.
若苏厄于是祝福了他们，打发他们回去；他们就返回了自己的帐幕。——
7 (For, to half the tribe of Manasseh Moses had assigned land in Bashan; and to the other half Joshua had given a portion along with their kinsmen west of the Jordan.) What Joshua said to them when he sent them off to their tents with his blessing was,
梅瑟在巴商已分给了默纳协半支派土地。至于另半个支派，若苏厄在约但河西，在他们的弟兄中，也分给了他们土地，──此外，当若苏厄打发他们回帐幕的时候，祝福了他们，
8 ＂Now that you are returning to your own tents with great wealth, with very numerous livestock, with silver, gold, bronze and iron, and with a very large supply of clothing, divide these spoils of your enemies with your kinsmen there.＂
向他们说：＂现在你们带着这许多财物、牛、羊、金银、铜铁，和大批衣服回到自己的帐幕，也要将你们由敌人夺得的财物，分给你们的弟兄！＂
9 So the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh left the other Israelites at Shiloh in the land of Canaan and returned to the land of Gilead, their own property, which they had received according to the LORD'S command through Moses.
勒乌本人、加得人和默纳协半支派的人，于是从客纳罕地的史罗起身，离开以色列人，回到自己得为产业的基肋阿得，即上主借梅瑟吩咐给他们作为产业的地方。
10 When the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh came to the region of the Jordan in the land of Canaan, they built there at the Jordan a conspicuously large altar.
当勒乌本人、加得人和默纳协半支派的人，来到属客纳罕地的约但河附近地区时，在约但河边筑了一座祭坛，一座高大可观的祭坛。
11 1 The other Israelites heard the report that the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had built an altar in the region of the Jordan facing the land of Canaan, across from them,
以色列人听见说：＂看，勒乌本人、加得人和默纳协半支派的人，在属客纳罕地的约但河附近地区，以色列子民境内，筑了一座祭坛。＂
12 2 and therefore they assembled their whole community at Shiloh to declare war on them.
以色列子民一听说这事，全会众便聚集在史罗，要去作战攻打他们。
13 First, however, they sent to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead an embassy consisting of Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest,
以色列子民便委派厄肋阿匝尔的儿子丕乃哈斯司祭，到基肋阿得地方去见勒乌本人、加得人和默纳协半支派人，
14 and ten princes, one from every tribe of Israel, each one being both prince and military leader of his ancestral house.
和他同去的尚有十位首领，每支派一个，他们都是以色列各家族的族长。
15 When these came to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead, they said to them:
他们来到基肋阿得地方，见勒乌本人、加得人和默纳协半支派人，向他们说：
16 ＂The whole community of the LORD sends this message: What act of treachery is this you have committed against the God of Israel? You have seceded from the LORD this day, and rebelled against him by building an altar of your own!
＂上主的全会众这样说：你们相反以色列的天主，犯这不忠信的罪，有什么意思？为什么你们今天离开上主，另建立祭坛，公开背叛上主？
17 For the sin of Peor, a plague came upon the community of the LORD.
以前敬拜培敖尔的罪过为我们还不够吗？为了那个罪过，灾祸降于上主的会众，直到今天，我们还没洗净。
18 We are still not free of that; must you now add to it? You are rebelling against the LORD today and by tomorrow he will be angry with the whole community of Israel!
看你们今天又要离开上主，你们今天违背上主，明天衪必向以色列全会众发怒。
19 3 If you consider the land you now possess unclean, cross over to the land the LORD possesses, where the Dwelling of the LORD stands, and share that with us. But do not rebel against the LORD, nor involve us in rebellion, by building an altar of your own in addition to the altar of the LORD, our God.
如果你们认为所得的地方不洁，可以回到上主的地方，上主帐幕的所在地，住在我们中间；决不可违背上主，激怒我们，在上主我们的天主祭坛以外，为自己另筑祭坛。
20 4 When Achan, son of Zerah, violated the ban, did not wrath fall upon the entire community of Israel? Though he was but a single man, he did not perish alone for his guilt!＂
以前则辣黑的子孙阿干，在应毁灭的财物上犯了不忠之罪，虽只他一人犯罪，忿怒岂不是临到以色列全会众？死在他罪过中的并不只他一人！＂
21 The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh replied to the military leaders of the Israelites:＂The LORD is the God of gods.
勒乌本人、加得人和默纳协半支派的人，回答以色列的首领说：
22 5 The LORD, the God of gods, knows and Israel shall know. If now we have acted out of rebellion or treachery against the LORD, our God,
＂大能者天主上主，大能者天主上主清楚知道，以色列也明白：如果我们有违背或干犯上主的事，愿衪今天别救我们！
23 and if we have built an altar of our own to secede from the LORD, or to offer holocausts, grain offerings or peace offerings upon it, the LORD himself will exact the penalty.
如果我们建筑这祭坛，有意离开上主，或有意在坛上献全燔祭、素祭或和平祭，愿上主自己惩罚我们！
24 We did it rather out of our anxious concern lest in the future your children should say to our children: 'What have you to do with the LORD, the God of Israel?
我们做这事，其实正是因为顾虑到：将来你们的子孙会对我们的子孙说：你们和上主以色列的天主有什么关系？
25 For the LORD has placed the Jordan as a boundary between you and us. You descendants of Reuben and Gad have no share in the LORD.' Thus your children would prevent ours from revering the LORD.
上主定了约但河为我们与你们勒乌本人和加得人之间的界限，你们和上主已没有分子。这样你们的子孙必使我们的子孙不再敬畏上主。
26 So we decided to guard our interests by building this altar of our own: not for holocausts or for sacrifices,
因此我们想：我们还是建筑一座祭坛，不是为献全燔祭，也不是为祭献牺牲，
27 but as evidence for you on behalf of ourselves and our descendants, that we have the right to worship the LORD in his presence with our holocausts, sacrifices, and peace offerings. Now in the future your children cannot say to our children,‘You have no share in the LORD.'
只是为在你我之间，在你我后人之间作一证据，证明我们愿在上主面前以全燔祭、牺牲及和平祭敬礼上主，免得日后你们的子孙对我们的子孙说：你们与上主已没有分子。
28 6 Our thought was, that if in the future they should speak thus to us or to our descendants, we could answer:‘Look at the model of the altar of the LORD which our fathers made, not for holocausts or for sacrifices, but to witness between you and us.'
因此我们想：日后如有人对我们或我们的子孙说，我们可以回答说：你们试看我们的祖先所筑的上主的祭坛的式样，不是为献全燔祭，也不是为献牺牲，而是为作你我之间的证据。
29 Far be it from us to rebel against the LORD or to secede now from the LORD by building an altar for holocaust, grain offering, or sacrifice in addition to the altar of the LORD, our God, which stands before his Dwelling.＂
我们今天决没有意思，违背上主，离开上主，在上主我们天主的帐幕前的祭坛以外，为献全燔祭、素祭和牺牲，另建立一祭坛。＂
30 When Phinehas the priest and the princes of the community, the military leaders of the Israelites, heard what the Reubenites, the Gadites and the Manassehites had to say, they were satisfied.
司祭丕乃哈斯和同他来的会众的首领，即以色列人的族长，听了勒乌本人、加得人和默纳协人所说的话，都表示满意。
31 Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest, said to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the Manassehites,＂Now we know that the LORD is with us. Since you have not committed this act of treachery against the LORD, you have kept the Israelites free from punishment by the LORD.＂
厄肋阿匝尔的儿子丕乃哈斯司祭对勒乌本人、加得人和默纳协人说：＂今天我们知道上主是在我们中间，因为你们对上主没有犯这样不忠信的罪，现在你们由上主手中救了以色列子民。＂
32 Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes returned from the Reubenites and the Gadites in the land of Gilead to the Israelites in the land of Canaan, and reported the matter to them.
厄肋阿匝尔的儿子丕乃哈斯司祭和首领便离开勒乌本人、加得人和默纳协半支派的人，从基肋阿得地方回到客纳罕地见以色列子民，给他们报告了这事。
33 The report satisfied the Israelites, who blessed God and decided against declaring war on the Reubenites and Gadites or ravaging the land they occupied.
以色列子民对这报告都表示满意，遂颂扬上主，不再想作战攻打勒乌本人和加得人，毁灭他们所住的地方。
34 7 The Reubenites and the Gadites gave the altar its name as a witness among them that the LORD is God.
勒乌本人和加得人给那祭坛起名叫＂赫得，＂因为他们说：＂这祭坛在我们中间证明上主是真天主。＂

1 [11] In the region of the Jordan facing the land of Canaan: on the eastern side of the Jordan valley. The river itself formed the boundary between these eastern tribes and the rest of the tribes who lived in what was formerly Canaan-though the term Canaan could also be used of both sides of the Jordan valley (cf Joshua 22:10). The Transjordan tribes naturally built their altar in their own territory.
2 [12] To declare war on them: the western Israelites considered this altar, which seemed to violate the customary unity of the sanctuary (Lev 17:1-9; Deut 12:4-14), as a sign of secession and dangerous to national unity. The motives for the war were political as well as religious.
3 [19] Unclean: not sanctified by the Dwelling of the Lord.
4 [20] Achan . . . did not perish alone: his guilt caused the failure of the first attack on Ai (Joshua 7:4-23); this fact is adduced as an argument for the solidarity and mutual responsibility of all the Israelites.
5 [22] The LORD, the God of gods: the Hebrew, which cannot be adequately rendered in English here, adds to the divine name Yahweh (＂the LORD＂) two synonymous words for＂God,＂ el and elohim. The repetition of these three sacred words adds force to the protestations of fidelity and innocence.
6 [28] To witness: far from being destined to form a rival sanctuary, the model of the altar was intended by the eastern tribes solely as a means of teaching their children to be faithful to the one true sanctuary beyond the Jordan.

Chapter 23
1 Many years later, after the LORD had given the Israelites rest from all their enemies round about them, and when Joshua was old and advanced in years,
以后上主使以色列人同四周敌人平安无事，这样过了很长的时间，若苏厄已老，上了年纪，
2 he summoned all Israel (including their elders, leaders, judges and officers) and said to them: ＂I am old and advanced in years.
便将全以色列人，他们的长老、首领、判官和官长召来，对他们说：＂我已年老，上了年纪
3 You have seen all that the LORD, your God, has done for you against all these nations; for it has been the LORD, your God, himself who fought for you.
你们都亲眼见了上主你们的天主，为了你们对所有的民族所作的一切；因为是上主你们的天主在替你们作战。
4 Bear in mind that I have apportioned among your tribes as their heritage the nations that survive (as well as those I destroyed) between the Jordan and the Great Sea in the west.
你们看，我已用抽签方式，将由约但河起，直至日落之处的大海之间，所消灭和所剩下的各民族的土地，按照你们各支派，都分给了你们作产业。
5 The LORD, your God, will drive them out and dislodge them at your approach, so that you will take possession of their land as the LORD, your God, promised you.
上主你们的天主必将他们由你们面前赶走，使他们离开你们，叫你们承受他们的土地，一如上主你们的天主向你们所应许的。
6 Therefore strive hard to observe and carry out all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, not straying from it in any way,
因此，你们要更忠实谨守奉行梅瑟法律书上所记载的一切，不可偏左偏右，
7 or mingling with these nations while they survive among you. You must not invoke their gods, or swear by them, or serve them, or worship them,
不可与你们中间所余的异族往来，不可提起他们的神名，不可指着他们起誓，不可事奉那些神，也不可在他们面前跪拜。
8 but you must remain loyal to the LORD, your God, as you have been to this day.
反之，你们应按照你们一直到今天所行的，依附上主你们的天主，
9 At your approach the LORD has driven out large and strong nations, and to this day no one has withstood you.
因为是上主从你们面前赶走了那些强大的异族，直到今天，没有人能抵抗你们。
10 One of you puts to flight a thousand, because it is the LORD, your God, himself who fights for you, as he promised you.
你们一人能赶走千人，是因为上主你们的天主，照衪所应许的，亲自为你们作战。
11 Take great care, however, to love the LORD, your God.
你们要尽心尽力，爱慕上主你们的天主。
12 For if you ever abandon him and ally yourselves with the remnant of these nations while they survive among you, by intermarrying and intermingling with them,
如果你们背弃上主，依恋你们中间所剩余的异族，同他们结婚，互相往来，
13 know for certain that the LORD, your God, will no longer drive these nations out of your way. Instead they will be a snare and a trap for you, a scourge for your sides and thorns for your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the LORD, your God, has given you.
你们就当知道，上主你们的天主必不再从你们面前，赶走这些异族，你们必将成为你们的罗网和陷阱，打你们腰的鞭子，扎你们眼的芒刺，直到你们从上主你们天主所赐给你们的这福地上，全被消灭。
14 1 ＂Today, as you see, I am going the way of all men. So now acknowledge with your whole heart and soul that not one of all the promises the LORD, your God, made to you has remained unfulfilled. Every promise has been fulfilled for you, with not one single exception.
看我今天就要走世人必走的路，你们要一心一意地承认，上主你们的天主应许赐福给你们的话，没有一句落空，都已应验在你们身上，一句也没有落空。
15 2 But just as every promise the LORD, your God, made to you has been fulfilled for you, so will he fulfill every threat, even so far as to exterminate you from this good land which the LORD, your God, has given you.
上主你们的天主对你们所应许的一切幸福，怎样实现在你们身上，上主对你们所提出的灾祸，也要怎样临于你们身上，直到将你们从上主你们天主所赐于你们的这福地上消灭。
16 If you transgress the covenant of the LORD, your God, which he enjoined on you, serve other gods and worship them, the anger of the LORD will flare up against you and you will quickly perish from the good land which he has given you.＂
如果你们违犯上主你们的天主与你们订立的盟约，去事奉敬拜其他的神，上主必向你们大发忿怒，使你们迅速从他所赐予你们的福地上消灭。

Chapter 24
1 Joshua gathered together all the tribes of Israel at Shechem, summoning their elders, their leaders, their judges and their officers. When they stood in ranks before God,
若苏厄又聚集以色列众支派来到舍根，也召集了以色列的长老、首领、判官和官长，叫他们立在天主面前，
2 1 Joshua addressed all the people: ＂Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: In times past your fathers, down to Terah, father of Abraham and Nahor, dwelt beyond the River and served other gods.
若苏厄对全民众说：＂上主以色列的天主这样说：从前你们的祖先亚巴郎和纳曷尔的父亲特辣黑，住在大河那边，事奉别的神明。
3 But I brought your father Abraham from the region beyond the River and led him through the entire land of Canaan. I made his descendants numerous, and gave him Isaac.
我将你们的祖先亚巴郎从大河那边召来，领他走遍客纳罕全地，使他的后裔繁多，赐给了他依撒格。
4 To Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. To Esau I assigned the mountain region of Seir in which to settle, while Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.
我又将雅各伯和厄撒乌，赐给了依撒格；将色依尔山区赐给了厄撒乌作产业；雅各伯却和他的儿子下到了埃及。
5 ＂Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and smote Egypt with the prodigies which I wrought in her midst.
以后，我派了梅瑟和亚郎，在埃及行奇迹，打击了埃及，然后将你们领了出来。
6 Afterward I led you out of Egypt, and when you reached the sea, the Egyptians pursued your fathers to the Red Sea with chariots and horsemen.
当我领你们的祖先离开埃及来到海边时，埃及人率领车辆兵马，追赶你们的祖先直到红海。
7 Because they cried out to the LORD, he put darkness between your people and the Egyptians, upon whom he brought the sea so that it engulfed them. After you witnessed what I did to Egypt, and dwelt a long time in the desert,
当他们呼求上主时，上主便在你们与埃及人之间突降浓雾，使海水流回淹没了他们。我在埃及所行的，你们都亲眼见过。以后，你们在旷野住了很久。
8 I brought you into the land of the Amorites who lived east of the Jordan. They fought against you, but I delivered them into your power. You took possession of their land, and I destroyed them (the two kings of the Amorites) before you.
当我领你们到了住在约但河东阿摩黎人的地域时，他们曾攻击过你们，但我将他们交在你们手中，使你们占领了他们的地方，由你们面前消灭了他们。
9 Then Balak, son of Zippor, king of Moab, prepared to war against Israel. He summoned Balaam, son of Beor, to curse you;
那时，摩阿布王，漆颇尔的儿子巴拉克起来攻击以色列，并派人叫贝敖尔的儿子巴郎来诅咒你们。
10 but I would not listen to Balaam. On the contrary, he had to bless you, and I saved you from him.
但是我不想俯听巴郎，他反而祝福了你们。这样，我从他手中救了你们。
11 Once you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho, the men of Jericho fought against you, but I delivered them also into your power.
以后你们渡过约但河，来到耶里哥，耶里哥的居民同你们作战，以后有阿摩黎人、培黎齐人、客纳罕人、赫特人、基尔加士人、希威人和耶步斯人，都同你们作过战，但我将他们都交在你们手中。
12 2 And I sent the hornets ahead of you which drove them (the Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites and Jebusites) out of your way; it was not your sword or your bow.
我并派黄蜂在你们前，将阿摩黎人的两个王子，从你们面前赶走，并未用你们的剑，也未用你们的弓。
13 ＂I gave you a land which you had not tilled and cities which you had not built, to dwell in; you have eaten of vineyards and olive groves which you did not plant.
这样，我把未经你们开垦的地，赐给了你们；把未经你们建筑的城，赐给了你们居住；将未经你们种植的葡萄园和橄榄树林，赐给了你们作食物。
14 ＂Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve him completely and sincerely. Cast out the gods your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.
所以你们应该敬畏上主，诚心敬意地事奉衪，拋弃你们祖先在大河那边和埃及所事奉的神，惟独事奉上主。
15 3 If it does not please you to serve the LORD, decide today whom you will serve, the gods your fathers served beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose country you are dwelling. As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.＂
若是你们不乐意事奉上主，那么今天就选择你们所愿事奉的，或是你们祖先在大河那边事奉的神，或是你们现住地的阿摩黎人的神；至于我和我的家族，我们一定要事奉上主。＂
16 But the people answered, ＂Far be it from us to forsake the LORD for the service of other gods.
百姓回答说：＂我们绝对不愿背弃上主，去事奉其他的神！
17 For it was the LORD, our God, who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, out of a state of slavery. He performed those great miracles before our very eyes and protected us along our entire journey and among all the peoples through whom we passed.
因为上主是我们的天主，是衪领我们和我们的祖先出离了埃及地，为奴之家，在我们眼前行了那些绝大的神迹，在我们所走的一切路上，在我们所经过的一切民族中，绐终保护了我们。
18 At our approach the LORD drove out (all the peoples, including) the Amorites who dwelt in the land. Therefore we also will serve the LORD, for he is our God.＂
上主更从我们面前，赶走了所有的异族，和住在这地的阿摩黎人。为此，我们必要事奉上主，因为衪是我们的天主。＂
19 4 Joshua in turn said to the people, ＂You may not be able to serve the LORD, for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God who will not forgive your transgressions or your sins.
若苏厄对百姓说：＂你们不能事奉上主，因为衪是神圣不可侵犯的天主，是忌邪的天主，衪决不宽赦你们的过犯和罪恶，
20 If, after the good he has done for you, you forsake the LORD and serve strange gods, he will do evil to you and destroy you.＂
如果你们背弃上主，去事奉外邦的神，在衪恩待你们之后，衪必转而向你们降祸，消灭你们。＂
21 But the people answered Joshua, ＂We will still serve the LORD.＂
百姓答复若苏厄说：＂决不！我们一定要事奉上主！＂
22 Joshua therefore said to the people, ＂You are your own witnesses that you have chosen to serve the LORD.＂ They replied, ＂We are, indeed!＂
若苏厄对百姓说：＂这是你们对自己作证，要选择事奉上主！＂他们答说：＂我们自己作证。＂
23 ＂Now, therefore, put away the strange gods that are among you and turn your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel.＂
＂那么，你们应除掉你们中间的外邦神，一心归向上主，以色列的天主。＂
24 Then the people promised Joshua, ＂We will serve the LORD, our God, and obey his voice.＂
百姓答复若苏厄说：＂我们必定事奉上主，我们的天主，必听从衪的声音。＂
25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day and made statutes and ordinances for them at Shechem,
当天，若苏厄便与百姓立约，在舍根为他们立定了诫命和典章。
26 which he recorded in the book of the law of God. Then he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak that was in the sanctuary of the LORD.
若苏厄将这些话都写在天主的法律书上；又取了一块大石，立在上主圣所旁边的笃耨香树下。
27 And Joshua said to all the people, ＂This stone shall be our witness, for it has heard all the words which the LORD spoke to us. It shall be a witness against you, should you wish to deny your God.＂
若苏厄对全民众说：＂看！这块石头将作我们的见证，因为这块石头听见了上主对我们所说的一切话。这块石头也将作你们的见证，以免你们背弃你们的天主。＂
28 Then Joshua dismissed the people, each to his own heritage.
此后，若苏厄便打发百姓各自回到自己的地业去了。
29 After these events, Joshua, son of Nun, servant of the LORD, died at the age of a hundred and ten.
这些事以后，上主的仆人，农的儿子若苏厄便去了世，享年一百一十岁。
30 He was buried within the limits of his heritage at Timnath-serah in the mountain region of Ephraim north of Mount Gaash.
人将他埋葬在加阿士山北，厄弗辣因山区的提默纳特色辣黑自己的产业内。
31 Israel served the LORD during the entire lifetime of Joshua and that of the elders who outlived Joshua and knew all that the LORD had done for Israel.
若苏厄在世时以及在他死后，那些知道上主为以色列所行的一切事迹的长老们在世时，以色列人常事奉了上主。
32 5 The bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt, were buried in Shechem in the plot of ground Jacob had bought from the sons of Hamor, father of Shechem, for a hundred pieces of money. This was a heritage of the descendants of Joseph.
以色列子民也将从埃及抬回来的若瑟的遗骸，埋葬在舍根的田里。那块田是雅各伯用一百银钱，由舍根的父亲，哈摩尔的子孙手中买来的；这块田便成了若瑟子孙的产业。
33 When Eleazar, son of Aaron, also died, he was buried on the hill which had been given to his son Phinehas in the mountain region of Ephraim.
亚郎的儿子厄肋阿匝尔也死了。人将他埋葬在基贝亚，即他的儿子丕乃哈斯在厄弗辣因山地分得的城内。
