1亞巴郎九十九歲時，上主顯現給他，對他說：「我是全能的天主，你當在我面前行走，作個成全的人。 1And after he began to be ninety and nine years old, the Lord appeared to him: and said unto him: I am the Almighty God: walk before me, and be perfect.
2我要與你立約，使你極其繁盛。」 2And I will make my covenant between me and thee: and I will multiply thee exceedingly.
3亞巴郎遂俯伏在地；天主又對他說： 3Abram fell flat on his face.
4「看，是我與你立約：你要成為萬民之父； 4And God said to him: I AM, and my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
5以後，你不再叫做亞巴郎，要叫做亞巴辣罕，因為我已立定你為萬民之父， 5Neither shall thy name be called any more Abram: but thou shalt be called Abraham: because I have made thee a father of many nations.
6使你極其繁衍，成為一大民族，君王要由你而出。 6And I will make thee increase, exceedingly, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
7我要在我與你和你歷代後裔之間，訂立我的約，當作永久的約，就是我要做你和你後裔的天主。 7And I will establish my covenant between me and thee, and between thy seed after thee in their generations, by a perpetual covenant: to be a God to thee, and to thy seed after thee.
8我必將你現今僑居之地，即客納罕全地，賜給你和你的後裔做永久的產業；我要作他們的天主。」 8And I will give to thee, and to thy seed, the land of thy sojournment, all the land of Chanaan for a perpetual possession, and I will be their God.
9天主又對亞巴郎說：「你和你的後裔，世世代代應遵守我的約。 9Again God said to Abraham: And thou therefore shalt keep my covenant, and thy seed after thee in their generations.
10這就是你們應遵守的，在我與你們以及你的後裔之間所立的約：你們中所有的男子都應受割損。 10This is my covenant which you shall observe, between me and you, and thy seed after thee: All the male kind of you shall be circumcised:
11你們都應割去肉體上的包皮，作為我與你們之間的盟約的標記。 11And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, that it may be for a sign of the covenant between me and you.
12你們中世世代代所有的男子，在生後八日都應受割損；連家中生的，或是用錢買來而不屬你種族的外方人，都應受割損。 12An infant of eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations: he that is born in the house, as well as the bought servant shall be circumcised, and whosoever is not of your stock:
13凡在你家中生的，和你用錢買來的奴僕，都該受割損。這樣，我的約刻在你們肉體上作為永久的約。 13And my covenant shall be in your flesh for a perpetual covenant.
14凡未割去包皮，未受割損的男子，應由民間剷除；因他違犯了我的約。」 14The male, whose flesh of his foreskin shall not be circumcised, that soul shall be destroyed out of his people: because he hath broken my covenant.
15天主又對亞巴郎說：「你的妻子撒辣依，你不要再叫她撒辣依，而要叫她撒辣。 15God said also to Abraham: Sarai thy wife thou shalt not call Sarai, but Sara.
16我必要祝福她，使她也給你生個兒子。我要祝福她，使她成為一大民族，人民的君王要由她而生。 16And I will bless her, and of her I will give thee a son, whom I will bless, and he shall become nations, and kings of people shall spring from him.
17亞巴郎遂俯伏在地笑起來，心想：「百歲的人還能生子嗎？撒辣已九十歲，還能生子？」 17Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, saying in his heart: Shall a son, thinkest thou, be born to him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sara that is ninety years old bring forth?
18亞巴郎對天主說：「只望依市瑪耳在你面前生存就夠了！」 18And he said to God: O that Ismael may live before thee.
19天主說：「你的妻子撒辣確要給你生個兒子，你要給他起名叫依撒格；我要與他和他的後裔，訂立我的約當作永久的約。 19And God said to Abraham: Sara thy wife shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name Isaac, and I will establish my covenant with him for a perpetual covenant, and with his seed after him.
20至於依市瑪耳，我也聽從你；我要祝福他，使他繁衍，極其昌盛。他要生十二個族長，我要使他成為一大民族。 20And as for Ismael I have also heard thee. Behold, I will bless him, and increase, and multiply him exceedingly: he shall beget twelve chiefs, and I will make him a great nation.
21但是我的約，我要與明年此時撒辣給你生的依撒格訂立。」 21But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sara shall bring forth to thee at this time in the next year.
22天主同亞巴郎說完話，就離開他上升去了。 22And when he had left off speaking with him, God went up from Abraham.
23當天，亞巴郎就照天主所吩咐的，召集他的兒子依市瑪耳以及凡家中生的，和用錢買來的奴僕，即自己家中的一切男子，割去了他們肉體上的包皮。 23And Abraham took Ismael his son, and all that were born in his house: and all whom he had bought, every male among the men of his house: and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin forthwith the very same day, as God had commanded him.
24亞巴郎受割損時，已九十九歲； 24Abraham was ninety and nine years old, when he circumcised the flesh of his foreskin.
25他的兒子，依市瑪耳受割損時，是十三歲。 25And Ismael his son was full thirteen years old at the time of his circumcision.
26亞巴郎和他的兒子依市瑪耳在同日上受了割損。 26The selfsame day was Abraham circumcised and Ismael his son.
27他家中所有的男人，不論是家中生的，或是由外方人那裡用錢買來的奴僕，都與他一同受了割損。 27And all the men of his house, as well they that were born in his house, as the bought servants and strangers were circumcised with him.

天主更改亚巴郎和他妻子的名字（5和15节），表示喊他们名字的，要记得他们是万民真福之源，万民都要因因亚巴郎获得祝福（12:1-3；依51:2）从本章6节亚巴郎一名应作「亚贝辣罕」，但因亚巴郎一名已习用，故不改。
17:10-14
割损礼在亚巴郎之前已为许多民族所通行；当时此礼只表示男子已成人，可以结婚。但天主给亚巴郎和他的後代子孙所制定的，是男孩生後第八日应行割损。此割损礼为以色列人具有一种宗教的深意：即藉此礼以色列的男子加入天主的选民，从此他们有遵守法律的义务（出12:44；肋12:3；苏5:2-8）。本章前段所提的盟约，并非真正的盟约，只是天主赐恩的好意。连割损也不是盟约，而是天主定的章程，作为盟约的标记。以色列人多以为受了割损礼，即成了亚巴郎之子孙，必受祝福。因此梅瑟和先知常强调心灵的割损（申10:12-22；肋26:41；耶4:4; 9:24-26；则44:7）。新约以割损为圣洗的预像（斐3:3；哥2:11；伯前3:21）。
