1黃昏時，那兩位使者來到了索多瑪，羅特正坐在索多瑪城門口，他一看見他們，就起身前去迎接，俯伏在地， 1And the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of the city. And seeing them, he rose up and went to meet them: and worshipped prostrate to the ground,
2說：「請二位先生下到你們僕人家中住一夜，洗洗你們的腳；明天早起，再趕你們的路。」他們答說：「不，我們願在街上過宿。」 2And said: I beseech you, my lords, turn in to the house of your servant, and lodge there: wash your feet, and in the morning you shall go on your way. And they said: No, but we will abide in the street.
3但因羅特極力邀請，他們才轉身跟著進了他的家。羅特為他們備辦了宴席，烤了無酵餅；他們就吃了。 3He pressed them very much to turn in unto him: and when they were come into his house, he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread and they ate:
4他們尚未就寢，閤城的人，即索多瑪男人，不論年輕年老的，沒有例外，全都來圍住他的家， 4But before they went to bed, the men of the city beset the house both young and old, all the people together.
5向羅特喊說：「今晚來到你這裡的那兩個男人在那裡？給我們領出來，叫我們好認識他們。」 5And they called Lot, and said to him: Where are the men that came in to thee at night? bring them out hither that we may know them:
6羅特就出來，隨手關上門，到門口見他們， 6Lot went out to them, and shut the door after him, and said:
7說：「我的弟兄們！請你們切不可作惡。 7Do not so, I beseech you, my brethren, do not commit this evil.
8看，我有兩個女兒，尚未認識過男人，容我領出她們來，任憑你們對待她們；只是這兩個男人，既然來到舍下，請你們不要對他們行事。」 8I have two daughters who as yet have not known man: I will bring them out to you, and abuse you them as it shall please you, so that you do no evil to these men, because they are come in under the shadow of my roof.
9他們反說：「滾開！」繼而說：「來這裡的這個外方人，居然做起判官來！現在我們待你比他們還要厲害。」他們遂用力向羅特衝去，一齊向前要打破那門。 9But they said: Get thee back thither. And again: Thou camest in, said they, as a, stranger, was it to be a judge? therefore we will afflict thee more than them. And they pressed very violently upon Lot: and they were even at the point of breaking open the doors.
10那兩個人卻伸出手來，將羅特拉進屋內，關上了門； 10And behold the men put out their hand, and drew in Lot unto them, and shut the door:
11又使那些在屋門口的男人，無論大小都迷了眼，找不著門口。 11And them that were without, they struck with blindness from the least to the greatest, so that they could not find the door.
12那兩個人對羅特說：「你這裡還有什麼人？帶你的女婿、兒女，以及城中你所有的人，離開這地方， 12And they said to Lot: Hast thou here any of thine? son in law, or sons, or daughters, all that are thine bring them out of this city:
13因為我們要毀滅這地方；由於在上主面前控告他們的聲音實在大，所以上主派遣我們來毀滅這地方。」 13For we will destroy this place, because their cry is grown loud before the Lord, who hath sent us to destroy them.
14羅特遂出去，告訴要娶他女兒的兩個女婿說：「起來，離開這地方，因為上主要毀滅這城！」但他的兩個女婿卻以為他在開玩笑。 14So Lot went out, and spoke to his sons in law that were to have his daughters, and said: Arise: get you out of this place, because the Lord will destroy this city. And he seemed to them to speak as it were in jest.
15天一亮，兩位使者就催促羅特說：「起來，快領你的妻子和你這裡的兩個女兒逃走，免得你因這城的罪惡同遭滅亡。」 15And when it was morning, the angels pressed him, saying: Arise, take thy wife, and the two daughters which thou hast: lest thou also perish in the wickedness of the city.
16羅特仍遲延不走；但因為上主憐恤他，那兩個人就拉著他的手，他妻子的和他兩個女兒的手領出城外。 16And as he lingered, they took his hand, and the hand of his wife, and of his two daughters, because the Lord spared him.
17二人領他們到城外，其中一個說：「快快逃命，不要往後看，也不要在平原任何地方站住；該逃往山中，免得同遭滅亡。」 17And they brought him forth, and set him without the city: and there they spoke to him, saying: Save thy life: look not back, neither stay thou in all the country about: but save thyself in the mountain, lest thou be also consumed.
18羅特對他們說：「啊！不，我主！ 18And Lot said to them: I beseech thee my Lord,
19你僕人既蒙你垂愛，又蒙你大顯仁慈，得以保全我的性命；但是現在我不能逃往山中，怕遇見災禍死去。 19Because thy servant hath found grace before thee, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewn to me, in saving my life, and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil seize me, and I die:
20看這座城很近，容我逃往那裡，那只是一座小城；請容我逃往那裡；那不只是一座小城嗎？在那裡我可保全性命。」 20There is this city here at hand, to which I may flee, it is a little one, and I shall be saved in it: is it not a little one, and my soul shall live?
21其中一個對他說：「好罷！連在這事上我也顧全你的臉面，我必不消滅你提及的這座城。 21And he said to him: Behold also in this, I have heard thy prayers, not to destroy the city for which thou hast spoken.
22你趕快逃往那裡，因為你不到那裡，我不能行事。」為此那城稱為左哈爾。 22Make haste and be saved there, because I cannot do any thing till thou go in thither. Therefore the name of that city was called Segor.
23羅特到了左哈爾時，太陽已升出地面； 23The sun was risen upon the earth, and Lot entered into Segor.
24上主遂使硫磺和火，從天上上主那裡，降於索多瑪和哈摩辣， 24And the Lord rained upon Sodom and Gomorrha brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven.
25毀滅了這幾座城市和整個平原，以及城中所有的居民和地上的草木。 25And he destroyed these cities, and all the country about, all the inhabitants of the cities, and all things that spring from the earth.
26羅特的妻子因回頭觀看，立即變為鹽柱。 26And his wife looking behind her, was turned into a statue of salt.
27亞巴郎清晨起來，到了以前他立在上主面前的地方， 27And Abraham got up early in the morning and in the place where he had stood before with the Lord,
28向索多瑪和哈摩辣，以及整個平原一帶眺望，看見那地煙火上騰，有如燒窯一般。 28He looked towards Sodom and Gomorrha, and the whole land of that country: and he saw the ashes rise up from the earth as the smoke of a furnace.
29當天主毀滅平原諸城，消滅羅特所住的城市時，想起了亞巴郎，由滅亡中救了羅特。 29Now when God destroyed the cities of that country, remembering Abraham, he delivered Lot out of the destruction of the cities wherein he had dwelt.
30羅特因為怕住在左哈爾，便與他的兩個女兒離開左哈爾，上了山住在那裡；他和兩個女兒同住在一個山洞裡。 30And Lot went up out of Segor, and abode in the mountain, and his two daughters with him, (for he was afraid to stay in Segor,) and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters with him.
31長女對幼女說：「我們的父親已經老了，地上又沒有男人依照世界上的禮俗來與我們親近。 31And the elder said to the younger Our father is old, and there is no man left on the earth, to come in unto us after the manner of the whole earth.
32來讓我們用酒將父親灌醉，與他同睡：這樣我們可由父親傳生後代。」 32Come, let us make him drunk with wine, and let us lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
33那天夜裡，她們就用酒將父親灌醉；長女遂進去與父親同睡；女兒幾時臥下，幾時起來，他都不知道。 33And they made their father drink wine that night: and the elder went in and lay with her father: but he perceived not neither when his daughter lay down, nor when she rose up.
34第二天，長女對幼女說：「看，昨夜我與父親同睡了，今夜我們再用酒灌醉他，你好進去與他同睡，由我們的父親傳生後代。」 34And the next day the elder said to the younger: Behold I lay last night with my father, let us make him drink wine also to night, and thou shalt lie with him, that we may save seed of our father.
35那天夜裡，她們又用酒將父親灌醉，幼女遂進去與他同睡；女兒幾時臥下，幾時起來，他都不知道。 35They made their father drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in, and lay with him: and neither then did he perceive when she lay down, nor when she rose up.
36這樣，羅特的兩個女兒都由父親懷了孕。 36So the two daughters of Lot were with child by their father.
37長女生了一個兒子，給他起名叫摩阿布，是現今摩阿布人的始祖； 37And the elder bore a son, and she called his name Moab: he is the father of the Moabites unto this day.
38幼女也生了一個兒子，給他起名叫本阿米，是現今阿孟子民的始祖。 38The younger also bore a son, and she called his name Ammon, that is, the son of my people: he is the father of the Ammonites unto this day.

此段述罗特优待旅客胜过保护女儿贞洁之事。他住在恶劣的环境中，勉作义人实在难得（伯後2:6-9）。索多玛人所犯的是逆性男色之罪（肋18:22; 20:13-23；罗1:26-27）。圣经常把严罚五城之事，提出来警告後人（申29:22；依1:9; 13:19；耶49:18; 50:40；亚4:11；智10:6-7；玛10:15; 11:23-24；路17:28；伯後2:6；犹7）。

除索多玛及哈摩辣两城外，同时被毁者尚有阿得玛和责波殷（14:2；申29:22；欧11:8）；左哈尔因罗特逃入得免。
19:30-38
作者为避免摩阿布和阿孟人因罗特同亚巴郎的亲属关系，而自夸为以色列人的亲属，遂插入此段乱伦的事，说明他们的祖宗既违背了伦常（肋18:6-18），与亚巴郎的亲戚关系，毫无荣誉可言。
