2當地酋長希威人哈摩爾的兒子舍根看見她，就抓住她，強姦了她，玷辱了她。 2And when Sichem the son of Hemor the Hevite, the prince of that land, saw her, he was in love with her: and took her away, and lay with her, ravishing the virgin.
3他的心迷戀雅各伯的女兒狄納，深愛這少女，說寬慰她心的話。 3And his soul was fast knit unto her, and whereas she was sad, he comforted her with sweet words.
4事後，舍根向自己的父親哈摩爾說：「請給我娶這少女為妻。」 4And going to Hemor his father, he said: Get me this damsel to wife.
5雅各伯聽見舍根污辱了女兒狄納，但因他的兒子們那時正在鄉間看守他的牲畜，所以沒有作聲，等他們回來。 5But when Jacob had heard this, his sons being absent, and employed in feeding the cattle, he held his peace till they came back.
6舍根的父親哈摩爾前來見雅各伯，與他商議。 6And when Hemor the father of Sichem was come out to speak to Jacob,
7那時雅各伯的兒子已由鄉間回來，一聽見這消息，就人人憤恨，非常惱怒，因為有人對以色列做出了這樣的醜事：竟與雅各伯的女兒同臥；這是不應該做的。 7Behold his sons came from the field: and hearing what had passed, they were exceeding angry, because he had done a foul thing in Israel, and committed an unlawful act, in ravishing Jacob's daughter,
8哈摩爾與他們商議說：「我兒舍根的心迷戀你們的女兒，請你們將她嫁給他為妻。 8And Hemor spoke to them: The soul of my son Sichem has a longing for your daughter: give her him to wife:
9你們可與我們互通婚姻：將你們的女兒嫁給我們，你們也可娶我們的女兒； 9And let us contract marriages one with another: give us your daughters and take you our daughters,
10這樣你們可同我們住在一起，本地都擺在你們面前，你們可在其中居住、行動、置業。」 10And dwell with us: the land is at your command, till, trade, and possess it.
11舍根也對狄納的父親和她的兄弟們說：「只要我在你們眼中蒙恩，凡你們要求的，我必依從。 11Sichem also said to her father and to her brethren: Let me find favour in your sight: and whatsoever you shall appoint I will give.
12任憑你們向我要多少聘金和禮品，我必照你們提出的交付，只要你們將這少女給我為妻。」 12Raise the dowry, and ask gifts, and I will gladly give what you shall demand: only give me this damsel to wife.
13雅各伯的兒子因為舍根污辱了他們的妹妹狄納，就用欺詐的話答覆舍根和他父親哈摩爾， 13The sons of Jacob answered Sichem and his father deceitfully, being enraged at the deflowering of their sister:
14說：「將我們的妹妹嫁給一個沒有受割損的人，為我們實是一大恥辱，我們不能這樣作。 14We cannot do what you demand, nor give our sister to one that is uncircumcised, which with us is unlawful and abominable.
15除非有這個條件，我們不能同意：你們都應和我們一樣，使你們中所有的男子都受割損； 15But in this we may be allied with you, if you will be like us, and all the male sex among you be circumcised:
16以後我們可將我們的女兒嫁給你們，我們也可娶你們的女兒；我們與你們住在一起，成為一個民族。 16Then will we mutually give and take your daughters, and ours: and we will dwell with you, and will be one people:
17如果你們不肯聽從我們而受割損，我們就帶著我們的女兒離去。」 17But if you will not be circumcised, we will take our daughter and depart:
18哈摩爾和他的兒子舍根認為他們的建議很好。 18Their offer pleased Hemor, and Sichem his son:
19這少年毫不遲延地要照這建議進行，因為他喜愛雅各伯的女兒，更何況他還是他父親全家族中最重要的人物。 19And the young man made no delay, but forthwith fulfilled what was required, for he loved the damsel exceedingly, and he was the greatest man in all his father's house.
20哈摩爾和自己的兒子舍根於是來到城門口，向本城的人提議說： 20And going into the gate of the city they spoke to the people:
21「這些人對我們很和善，讓他們住在本地內，在這裡活動；本地原很廣闊，足夠容納他們。我們可娶他們的女兒為妻，也可將我們的女兒嫁給他們。 21These men are peaceable and willing to dwell with us: let them trade in the land, and till it, which being large and wide wanteth men to till it: we shall take their daughters for wives, and we will give them ours.
22但是，這些人只有一個條件，才同意與我們住在一起，形成一個民族：就是我們中所有的男子都應受割損，如同他們受了割損一樣。 22One thing there is for which so great a good is deferred: We must circumcise every male among us, following the manner of the nation.
23這樣，他們的家畜和財產，以及一切牲口，豈不都歸了我們！只要我們同意，他們就肯同我們住在一起。」 23And their substance, and cattle, and all that they possess, shall be ours: only in this let us condescend, and by dwelling together, we shall make one people.
24凡由城門出入的人，都聽從了哈摩爾和他的兒子舍根的話；由城門出入的男子，都受了割損。 24And they all agreed, and circumcised all the males.
25第三天，他們正疼痛難忍時，雅各伯的兩個兒子，狄納的哥哥西默盎和肋未，各自拿了一把刀，不慌不忙進了城，殺了所有的男子； 25And behold the third day, when the pain of the wound was greatest, two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, the brothers of Dina, taking their swords, entered boldly into the city, and slew all the men:
26又用刀殺了哈摩爾和他的兒子舍根，由舍根房內領出狄納而去。 26And they killed also Hemor and Sichem, and took away their sister Dina, out of Sichem's house.
27雅各伯其餘的兒子因了自己的妹妹受污，乘人被殺就前來洗劫城邑， 27And when they were gone out, the other sons of Jacob came upon the slain; and plundered the city in revenge of the rape.
28奪去了他們的羊群、牛群和驢，並城內和鄉間所有的一切。 28And they took their sheep and their herds and their asses, wasting all they had in their houses and in the fields.
29凡是他們的財物，連他們所有的孩子和婦女都擄了去；凡屋內所有的一切，都奪了去。 29And their children and wives they took captive,
30雅各伯事後對西默盎和肋未說：「你們害了我，使我在本地的居民，即客納罕人和培黎齊人中，成了個可恨的人。我的人數少，如果他們聯合起來反對我，攻擊我，那末我和我全家就必同歸於盡。」 30And when they had boldly perpetrated these things, Jacob said to Simeon and Levi: You have troubled me, and made me hateful to the Chanaanites and Pherezites, the inhabitants of this land: we are few: they will gather themselves together and kill me; and both I, and my house, shall be destroyed.
31他們回答說：「難道人應待我們的妹妹如同一個妓女？」 31They answered: Should they abuse our sister as a strumpet?

雅各伯的两个儿子的行为，是背信违义的罪。西默盎、肋未和狄纳为同母兄妹，二人更觉得雪耻的心。为了残杀舍根的人，日後他们二人受了父亲的诅咒(49:5-7)。关於强奸罪的处罚，日後法律的制裁很合乎人道（出22:15-16；申22:29）。
