1天主對雅各伯說：「起來，上貝特耳去，住在那裡，為你昔日逃避你哥哥厄撒烏在那裡顯現給你的天主，築一祭壇。」 1In the meantime God said to Jacob: Arise, and go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared to thee when thou didst flee from Esau thy brother.
2雅各伯便對家人和跟隨他的人說：「你們應除去你們中間所有外邦的神像，並取潔，更換衣服， 2And Jacob having called together all his household, said: Cast away the strange gods that are among you, and be cleansed and change your garments.
3因為我們要起身上貝特耳去；在那裡我要給在我困苦的時日俯聽了我，在我所走的路上伴隨了我的天主，築一祭壇。」 3Arise, and let us go up to Bethel, that we may make there an altar to God: who heard me in the day of my affliction, and accompanied me in my journey.
4眾人便將自己手中所有外邦的神像，所有的耳環，都交給了雅各伯；雅各伯就都埋在那靠近舍根的橡樹底下。 4So they gave him all the strange gods they had, and the earrings which were in their ears: and he buried them under the turpentine tree, that is behind the city of Sichem.
5當他們起程出發時，天主叫周圍的城邑都非常恐怖，為此誰也不敢追趕雅各伯的兒子。 5And when they were departed, the terror of God fell upon all the cities round about, and they durst not pursue after them as they went away.
6這樣，雅各伯和與他在一起的人，來到客納罕地的路次，即貝特耳； 6And Jacob came to Luza, which is in the land of Chanaan, surnamed Bethel: he and all the people that were with him.
7他在那裡築了一座祭壇。稱呼那地方為貝特耳，因為他逃避他哥哥時，天主曾在那裡顯現給他。 7And he built there an altar, and called the name of that place, The house of God: for there God appeared to him when he fled from his brother.
8其時黎貝加的乳母德波辣死了，就埋在貝特耳下面的一株橡樹底下；為此給這橡樹起名叫「悲泣的橡樹」。 8At the same time Debora the nurse of Rebecca died, and was buried at the foot of Bethel under an oak: and the name of that place was called, The oak of weeping.
9雅各伯由帕丹阿蘭回來後，天主又顯現給他，再祝福他。 9And God appeared again to Jacob, after he returned from Mesopotamia of Syria, and he blessed him,
10天主對他說：「你原叫雅各伯，但以後不再叫作雅各伯，卻要叫作以色列。」遂給他改名以色列。 10Saying: Thou shalt not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name. And he called him Israel.
11天主又對他說：「我是全能的天主，你要生育繁殖；不但一個民族，而是一些民族要由你而生，許多君王要由你而生。 11And said to him: I am God Almighty, increase thou and be multiplied. Nations and peoples of nations shall be from thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins.
12我將賜給了亞巴郎和依撒格的土地賜給你；我也將這土地賜給你未來的後裔。」 12And the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give to thee, and to thy seed after thee.
13然後天主就在與他談話的地方，離開他，上升去了。 13And he departed from him.
14雅各伯在天主與他談話地方，豎立了一根柱子，一根石柱；在上面行了奠祭，倒上油。 14But he set up a monument of stone, in the place where God had spoken to him: pouring drink offerings upon it, and pouring oil thereon:
15雅各伯給天主與他談話的地方起名叫貝特耳。 15And calling the name of that place Bethel.
16他們由貝特耳起程出發，離厄弗辣大還有一段路程時，辣黑耳要生產，感覺難產。 16And going forth from thence, he came in the springtime to the land which leadeth to Ephrata: wherein when Rachel was in travail,
17正當難產之際，收生婆對她說：「不要怕，你這次還是生個男孩。」 17By reason of her hard labour she began to be in danger, and the midwife said to her: Fear not, for thou shalt have this son also.
18辣黑耳將要斷氣快死的時候，給他起名叫本敖尼；但他的父親卻叫他本雅明。 18And when her soul was departing for pain, and death was now at hand, she called the name of her son Benoni, that is, The son of my pain: but his father called him Benjamin, that is, The son of the right hand.
19辣黑耳死了，葬在去厄弗辣大，即白冷的路旁。 19So Rachel died, and was buried in the highway that leadeth to Ephrata, this is Bethlehem.
20雅各伯在她墳上立了一塊碑；這塊辣黑耳墳上的碑，至今尚存。 20And Jacob erected a pillar over her sepulchre: this is the pillar of Rachel's monument, to this day.
21以色列又起程前行，在米革達耳厄德爾的那一面支搭了帳幕。 21Departing thence, he pitched his tent beyond the Flock tower.
22以色列住在那地時，勒烏本竟去與他父親的妾彼耳哈同睡；以色列後來聞知了此事。 22And when he dwelt in that country, Ruben went, and slept with Bala, the concubine of his father: which he was not ignorant of. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.
23雅各伯的兒子共計十二人。肋阿的兒子：雅各伯的長子勒烏本、西默盎、肋未、猶大、依撒加爾和則步隆。 23The sons of Lia: Ruben the first born, and Simeon, and Levi, and Juda, and Issachar, and Zabulon.
24辣黑耳的兒子：若瑟和本雅明。 24The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
25辣黑耳的婢女彼耳哈的兒子：丹和納斐塔里。 25The sons of Bala, Rachel's handmaid: Dan and Nephtali.
26肋阿的婢女齊耳帕的兒子：加得和阿協爾：這些都是雅各伯在帕丹阿蘭生的兒子。 26The sons of Zelpha, Lia's handmaid: Gad and Aser: these are the sons of Jacob, that were born to him in Mesopotamia of Syria.
27雅各伯來到了克黎雅特阿爾巴，即赫貝龍的瑪默勒他父親依撒格那裡，即亞巴郎和依撒格曾寄居過的地方。 27And he came to Isaac his father in Mambre, the city of Arbee, this is Hebron: wherein Abraham and Isaac sojourned.
28依撒格享壽一百八十歲。 28And the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years.
29他年高老邁，已享天年，遂斷氣而死，歸到他親族那裡去了；他的兒子厄撒烏和雅各伯將他埋葬了。 29And being spent with age he died, and was gathered to his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

此段记述往贝特耳朝圣的事：除去偶像，如辣黑耳由娘家偷来的家神像；除去含有迷信意味的装饰品，如耳环等；此外还应取洁更衣，以示圣洁（出19:10-14）。

除本雅明外（16-18节），其馀十一子皆生於帕丹阿兰。
35:16-20
「本敖尼」，即「我的苦儿」之意。因此名不祥，雅各伯即更改为「本雅明」，即「我右手之子」，有「幸运儿」的意思。关於辣黑耳的坟墓，从古以来有两种传说：一在白冷附近；一在耶路撒冷北部靠近辣玛城（耶31:15）。
35:21-22
由於勒乌本犯了乱伦之罪，雅各伯临终时褫夺了他长子的名分，且重重地诅咒了他(49:4)。
