1上主向梅瑟說：「看，我使你在法郎前像神一樣，你的哥哥亞郎將作你的代言人。 1And the Lord said to Moses: Behold I have appointed thee the God of Pharao: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.
2凡我吩咐你的一切，你要告訴你的哥哥亞郎，要他對法郎講話，叫他放以色列子民離開他的國境。 2Thou shalt speak to him all that I command thee; and he shall speak to Pharao, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.
3我卻要使法郎心硬，為此在埃及國要增多我的奇蹟和異事。 3But I shall harden his heart, and shall multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt,
4但因法郎不聽從你們，我要向埃及伸手，藉嚴厲的懲罰，將我的軍隊，我的百姓以色列子民，從埃及國領出來。 4And he will not hear you: and I will lay my hand upon Egypt, and will bring forth my army and my people the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, by very great judgments.
5當我向埃及人伸手，將以色列子民從埃及人中間領出來的時候，他們要承認我是上主。」 5And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, who have stretched forth my hand upon Egypt, and have brought forth the children of Israel out of the midst of them.
6梅瑟和亞郎就受命行事；上主怎樣吩咐，他們就怎樣行了。 6And Moses and Aaron did as the Lord had commanded: so did they.
7當他們去與法郎會談的時候，梅瑟八十歲，亞郎八十三歲。 7And Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three, when they spoke to Pharao.
8上主對梅瑟和亞郎說： 8And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron:
9「如果法郎要求你們說：你們顯個奇蹟，給你們作證罷！你就吩咐亞郎說：將你的棍杖扔在法郎面前，棍杖就會變成一條蛇。」 9When Pharao shall say to you, shew signs: thou shalt say to Aaron: Take thy rod, and cast it down before Pharao, and it shall be turned into a serpent.
10梅瑟和亞郎就去見法郎，照上主的吩咐作了：亞郎將棍杖扔在法郎和他臣僕面前，棍杖就變成了一條蛇。 10So Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharao, and did as the Lord had commanded. And Aaron took the rod before Pharao, and his servants, and it was turned into a serpent.
11法郎也將他的智者和術士召來，這些埃及的巫士也用他們的巫術作了同樣的事： 11And Pharao called the wise men and the magicians: and they also by Egyptian enchantments and certain secrets did in like manner.
12他們每人扔下自己的棍杖，也都變成了蛇，但亞郎的棍杖卻吞了他們的棍杖。 12And they every one cast down their rods, and they were turned into serpents: but Aaron's rod devoured their rods.
13法郎仍然心硬，不肯聽他們的話，正如上主所說的。 13And Pharao's heart was hardened, and he did not hearken to them, as the Lord had commanded.
14上主對梅瑟說：「法郎硬了心，拒絕釋放百姓。 14And the Lord said to Moses: Pharao's heart is hardened, he will not let the people go.
15明天早晨你去見法郎。他去水邊的時候，你要站在尼羅河邊迎住他；手中拿著那根變過蛇的棍杖。 15Go to him in the morning, behold he will go out to the waters: and thou shalt stand to meet him on the bank of the river: and thou shalt take in thy hand the rod that was turned into a serpent.
16你對他說：上主，希伯來人的天主打發我來見你說：你應放我的百姓到曠野中去崇拜我；但到現在你仍沒有聽從。 16And thou shalt say to him: The Lord God of the Hebrews sent me to thee saying: Let my people go to sacrifice to me in the desert: and hitherto thou wouldst not hear.
17上主這樣說：看，我要用手中拿的棍杖擊打河水，水就變成血，如此你必承認，我是上主。 17Thus therefore saith the Lord: In this thou shalt know that I am the Lord: behold I will strike with the rods that is in my hand, the water of the river, and it shall be turned into blood.
18河中的魚都要死，河水都要腥臭，埃及人不能再喝河中的水。」 18And the fishes that are in the river shall die, and the waters shall be corrupted, and the Egyptians shall be afflicted when they drink the water of the river.
19上主對梅瑟說：「你向亞郎說：拿起你的棍杖，將手伸在埃及的水上，即伸在河、溝渠、池沼和一切水塘之上，水都要變成血；如此埃及全國，連木器石器中的水也都要變成血。」 19The Lord also said to Moses: Say to Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch forth thy hand upon the waters of Egypt, and upon their rivers, and streams and pools, and all the ponds of waters, that they may be turned into blood: and let blood be in all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and of stone.
20梅瑟和亞郎就照上主的吩咐作了：亞郎在法郎和他臣僕的面前，舉起棍杖一打河水，所有的河水都變成了血； 20And Moses and Aaron did as the Lord had commanded: and lifting up the rod he struck the water of the river before Pharao and his servants: and it was turned into blood.
21河中的魚都死了，河水都腥臭不堪，埃及人不能再喝河中的水；埃及遍地是血。 21And the fishes that were in the river died: and the river corrupted, and the Egyptians could not drink the water of the river, and there was blood in all the land of Egypt.
22埃及的巫士用他們的巫術也行了同樣的事，因此法郎仍舊心硬，不肯聽信梅瑟和亞郎，正像上主所說的。 22And the magicians of the Egyptians with their enchantments did in like manner: and Pharao's heart was hardened, neither did he hear them, as the Lord had commanded.
23法郎轉身回到宮中，沒有把這事放在心上。 23And he turned himself away and went into his house, neither did he set his heart to it this time also.
24因為全埃及的人不能喝河中的水，便在河的附近掘水喝。 24And all the Egyptians dug round about the river for water to drink: for they could not drink of the water of the river.
25上主擊打河水後，滿了七天， 25And seven days were fully ended, after that the Lord struck the river.
26上主又對梅瑟說：「你去見法郎向他說：上主這樣說：你該放我的百姓走，好叫他們去崇拜我。 26
27你若拒絕不放，我要用蝦蟆打擊你的全境。 27
28河中要滋生蝦蟆，牠們要上來進入你的宮殿和臥室，爬上你的床榻，進入你臣僕和百姓的房屋，進入你的爐灶和摶麵盆。 28
29這些蝦蟆要爬到你、你百姓、你臣僕的身上。」 29

天主为叫法郎屈服，使梅瑟大显神能。亚郎作梅瑟的发言人，如同先知代天主发言一样。
7:8-13
埃及的术士使棍杖变成蛇，或出於巫术，或来自魔鬼，但无论如何，终必屈服於天主的权下。
7:14-19
7:14-12:41一段，是以史体记述埃及十大灾难；咏78:43-51; 105:28-36却以咏史诗歌颂天主的伟大作为；智16-18叁章以散文叙述了这段史事。天主降此十大灾难：一是为叫法郎承认以色列的天主是全能的；二是为确证梅瑟的使命。十大灾难中，虽然有的可以用当地的自然现象来解释，如河水变红，虾蟆繁多，但是冰雹、兽疫、蝗 在埃及却属罕见；并且按圣经的记载，十大灾难，始终是以梅瑟的发言为转移，这决不是一种自然现象。作者所用的「埃及全国」，虽有些渲染，但是事实却是具有历史价值的。
